Trying to buy new max, Is this A SCAM?

OK, well...to start off I think this is a SCAM So please chime in with thoughts...

I responded to an ad on craigslist that I thought was "too good to be true" just for the small chance that it might actually be "real"....anyway, I feel sketchy about this response and feel its B.S. So people please be aware of scams like this...

and this is the response I recieved:

Hello and thank you for question,
The 2002 Nissan Maxima SE 4 Door Sedan is in great shape, no engine problems, damages or hidden defects. It was always garaged and never kept outside, clear title, only 77500 original miles, female driver, gold exterior with tan heated leather seats, never smoked in. I`m a single mother with 2 children because I divorced with my husband and after the divorce I own this car, I don`t need it and that`s why I`m selling it so cheap. The price for the car is $2900 with shipping included. We will use eBay`s protection program for our safety. I just need your full name and address so i can open a case.(with no further obligation or fees).
Thank You !

scam for sure!

They will send you all kinds of official ebay buyer protection web pages to make you feel safe about the transaction and then once you send the money they are gone.

I would just mess with them, let them think they have a sucker but remember no personal info.

Here is my response:

Oh, that is a very good deal but......I thought that the maxima was silver in the pictures...I wanted a silver maxima with a manual transmission. And if possible...for it to have shiny wheels and cool lights, maybe even a big, loud muffler!!! BUT Thank you very much!

Thank you for your time!

Just out of curiosity, in the last pic...maybe I'm blind...but does the paint around that engine bay look white? Or is it just me?

Edit: Okay. Yeah, I see it now that I'm using my desktop. The screen on my laptop is just a piece of ****

why on earth would it be ready to go, in a sealed container, before any deal is made? don't they need a delivery address in order to get it "sealed"?

inform "her" that you sent the money she requested. once she says she never got it, do the "oh, my bad... must have done something wrong. lemme check on that.." thing.
after a day or so, let her know that the money is somewhere near her, that she has to go to this other place to pick it up.
once that is screwed up, offer a "certified cashier's" check to be "mailed" to her...
s and g for sure.

Yeah there was a thing like this on "Best of Craigslist" where this guy gave the scammer such a hard time.

Here I found it.

That's what you should do!

If you found the car on Craigs list, why is the seller referring to ebay's protection policy?

This is the new "You have money at a bank in Africa" scam. Any number of craiglist postings lure people in with the same reassurance as of late, poke around and you will see what I mean. Walk...

Heh, never really know about people, namely women. If this car was an obsession with her ex oldman, and she won it in the divorce, she MIGHT be trying to sell it cheap just to spite him. I've heard of women selling 'Vette's for a $1 to man-friends just to twist the knife a little deeper. So.........
But this smells like scam.

Exactly.

And the fact they're taking about ebay protection in a craiglist ad...
This has scam written all over it. I'm surprised you even had to ask OP. I bet they merely did a copy and paste from one of there ebay scams write-ups. LOL

+1

or

if you have some old checks that are no longer useable or you no longer have the account. Send one of them to them. Claim to the bank that someone stole it years ago and you never reported it cause the account closed. Then they will try to cash and get nailed for check fraud.....................could also work with a account that you already have that you dont care for much......

Whats up with all the scams going on? I was looking for jobs on this site and came across this job that was PERFECT! It fits in with my school schedule, good pay, work with cars, I thought this job was the ONE and so I sent in my resume and such.

And although the email was a hotmail account, I didn't even give that part a second thought, until the reply led me to a link, which I thought was already a red flag, and so clicked it and it led to a site that is all to obviously fake with the extra large, bolded, color contrasting, font that says WELCOME! PLEASE APPLY HERE FOR YOUR NEW JOB! and it asked for a bunch of info. like my social security, birthday, address, and all that.

One look at the info they requested and I closed it down, replied to the email with a friendly reply and that was the last I heard from them............

But now they have my full name, phone numbers, and address, thanks to my resume... NOO!

i have a contest with my boss for who can come up with 100k in fraudulent checks selling things on craigslist. We've been at it for about 8 months and have about 55k combined.

it seems like every time i try and sell something on craigslist i get an email or two from a scammer. The send money to my shipper ones are old and easy to spot but i have had a few on some high dollar items from people who "paid" through paypal then you get an email supposedly from paypal saying the money is being held by paypal to protect both sides of the transaction until a tracking number is provided.

Don't even waste your time. When I was shopping for a car earlier this year (before I found my new wife 02 max) I was on Craigslist almost ALL the time. And I saw the same exact crap posted except they was offering 2005-06 Acura TL's for like 5,000 or less. As someone said before it is a scam. No matter how you slice it, just ignore it and move on.

We all know the real value of these cars and even though ppl are desperate due to recession and all that, no one is gonna give up a max with that mileage that cheap.

She goes by Laura Miller but linblevinn55@yahoo.com

Thank god I found these posts. They have had me on the ropes all day and I knew better than this being a real deal. I sent the invoice page with Ebay all over it to spoof@ebay.com and it confirmed that it is a scam. So really what should I do? I think I should start a new bank account and send a check from an account that only has $5 in it. Can't you flag a check so that when it is cashed the bank will know to stop the person so maybe the police can catch them. Gotta do something cause these people probably make a killing. No chance on the it being a woman or a divorcee, just a story, only way someone can justify the price. F**kers!!

First off, how did you find these posts? did you do a google search of her name? I'm just curious....

Secondly, that is a great way to catch the scammer in the act, but from what I've heard is that sometimes they use middle-men to collect the cash for them.

I dont know if that is the case for this one but you should definately see if there is a way to catch the scammer. We could contact the police(cyber crimes division) If you have the address of the scammer...

Third off, will you post the invoice the scammer sent you? We would like to see it.

It's usually a scam when someone already wants the money up front before the settlement starts or takes place. If the companies involve promising dirt cheap price for something thats really worth 10k+, If the companies have to involve the third parties for the financial payments when the first party and It's own financial team or sales representives to take the money or the payment for the product It's surely a scam.

Haha when I was looking for my first car, I was looking on Edmunds and found this 2005 Jaguar with 3000 miles that was only $3000 dollars, I actually called the guy up and he said there is only minor water damage in the trunk due to the trunk being accidentally left open during a rain.

Come on............seriously.............. "slight" water damage from a "rain" that reduce the price of the car from $30,000+ to $3000....
