So who here doesnt have a car payment?

I'm not trying to be nosy as *****, but am wondering who doesnt have a car payment? Personally my car was purchased cash, but I have a "mod/upgrade" payment, and am currently paying off my recent clutch/transmission differential/motor mounts job.

Me. All money is towards mods, only thing that has needed replacement was the battery. I love my car.

Only another 60 easy payments of $315 . Look's like most of my mod money will just go into having a new car.

Me

I got a hand-me-down max, and my mom is such a control freak she won't let me put any mods on "her" car, so I guess that means I don't have any payments. More money to save up for a max of my own.

My I30 minus the $3,680 I owed on it. So about $11,300 down + a nice tax saving's.

I paid off my car last January with 8 months remianing on the loan. I owed around $3000 for my max and just decided to pay it off. I saved $100 in interest by paying the loan off early. It's a great feeling to write that last payment!

I'm lucky enough not to have a payment. . . Put all the money down up front as a downpayment for my mom's new car, and I got hers. Feels good to buy something yourself with your own money though.

I only put $1000 down on my 99. I've paid off one year so far, so just 48 more payments @ $400/mo.

Lower, but not gone

I've still got 48 payments to go, but thanks to refinancing, they'll be a little bit lower. It was almost painful when I paid off the old loan and had to correct the bank teller that the the title wouldn't be going to me, but to yet another creditor...

If you have a 98-2000 you can be for sure that you have a s**** rate, so why pay it? Just pay the b**** off! I'd say the best a person could have done was maybe and I stress maybe 3.9% in those years, and more realistically 5.9%, but today, that's nearly highway robbery. There really isn't any reason not to pay off a loan early unless the amount just is too high. The money one has in the bank/money market earns 1.8% or so, so why pay 3.9% on a loan?

My philosophy is there's nothing wrong with borrowing to get a car, but more than 36 months or less than 35% down is not wise, and once it's paid off, it's savvy to keep driving it, not decide it's time to get a new one and start the lame process over again. From the Mulberry tree comes the silk.....

It really only makes sense to borrow for assets that are expected to appreciate (home/property/education).
