Any Alternatives To A/C?

Hi I was wondering if you guys knew any fancy, cheap, and effective gadget out there that can somehow cool a car with just the power from a cigarette lighter socket, my A/C died ages ago and now I am starting to feel a need for that "cool breeze" during those hot days, since no one wants to ride in my car anymore because its like a sauna with the black leather and the white exterior reflecting light INTO the car... And also because every other car in my home has a working A/C...except for me.

I did a little research and all I came up on google was a BUNCH of sites about keeping your home cool without air condition and little tricks like: using beaded seat covers, having a bottle of water and towel, wearing water chilled t-shirts, having a bucket of dry ice in your car whenever you drive, and ect... but some things I am going to start investing in; starting tomorrow, is a window shade deflector, some darker window tints, some time looking in the engine bay praying to find A/C hose or something with a hole in it that I can repair with a piece of duct tape, haha

I think I am expecting too much, but is there some sort of miniature fan with some sort of self contained water pump system, that runs from the 12V power of our cars? But realistically I don't know if there is anything that can replace a A/C in a car....

Well, if all else fails, if any of you sees a guy driving nude in a white Maxima it'll be me.

Ah I figured, there is no such invention out there to replace the A/C besides repairing your A/C

Kicking out the windshield sounds like a plan except you'll have more problems during winter with snow in the car. Its 1:20AM guess I'd better get some sleep and start praying to find that hole in the A/C line.

Windows down, or tinted windows
Sunroof open
Drive really fast
Drive nude, cruise control, with one leg resting outside the window (not too sure how well this goes down with traffic around, am yet to try it, personally)

Apart from that, just invest some dollars to repair your A/C, its not that expensive, surely ?

das what i do, . in houston our seasons are hot and hotter. though occasionally we get up to REALLY hot! the humidity does us no favors, . but, i've lived here my whole life so i'm used to it, .

i wouldn't do a recharge until you find out the cause of the initial failure. look for ads in local papers, sometimes shops have coupon deals for cheap a/c checks and stuff. it's should all be easy enough for you to fix yourself once you know the problem.

Haha the recharge kit all spilled on the floor of mechanic's floor as soon as he put it in, he said there was a dime sized leak on SOMETHING but he won't be specific.

I am thinking its something I could fix easily which is why he is hiding that fact so that I will spend $500 to fix it.

And that picture of the ghetto A/C.............priceless. And that RV idea was pretty cool, and it matches the color of the car right?

At least you're in Washington state. You need A/C for maybe a month.

But make sure your heat works.

In Jersey without A/C you might as well not drive the car from May to October.

Windows and sunroof open work fine, but when you first get in the car you can't touch the steering wheel.

I like the RV idea and if you add some solar panels you can keep it cool forever.

The problem with the removing the windshield idea is the number of bugs that get caught in your teeth.

And you have a point haha but I could have sworn that for the last few years temperatures reached no where near 90 degrees but all of a sudden a heat wave struck, and I'm not used to it. I am starting to miss the constant rain and cloudy overcasts with a nice wind chill factor of -25 degrees.

I think I am okay now, because after reading a post on here about using a sunroof I decided to, man up! And find a way to ghetto fix my sunroof because the little latch or something on the right side wouldn't connect with the arm because somehow the previous owner managed to knock the two things completely apart. I was outside in the sun for like an hour before I got fed up and just smashed it down (Last resort) and the Maxima Gods decided to give me some luck and the latch on the sunroof went straight into the arm of the motor and now my sunroof works.

Oh and one more thing about kicking out the windshield, bugs won't be much of a problem since they are just good protein But its those people who chew tobacco that can spit insane distances out their driver's window that you need to worry about

How ironic! I JUST fixed my sunroof too I had to admit if I was a 6'3, I would have had some trouble... and it definitely was a pain to fix the sunroof there was so much trial and error and so much banging of the head against the roof of the car I think my IQ just dropped like 90 points.

You should consider swinging by the dollar store and buying one of those fans (the ones powered by two double A's and spray water out) and duct taping it to the rearview mirror. An easy fix.

Just fix the a/c - r134a is really cheap. I don't understand the reasoning not to. Not like you're some of us 3rd gen guys with r12 systems

Sarcasm, maybe?

Anyways, honestly you should just take your car to a local mechanic and ask them to have a look. Most of the time they won't charge you for asking whats wrong.

Haha yeah I know they are cheap, but the things is that my system has a leak in one of its components that needs replacing and everyone I took it to, just gave me that *ouch* look and then said its not going to be a easy or cheap fix.

Unless one of you guys who has some know-how about our A/C systems want to fix it for me, for............FREE

Beer!?!?! Come on, I wouldn't do that to my fellow .Org members, I mean if I gave you beer and you drove home drunk and trashed your Maxima's I don't think you will be very happy.

But anyways, that driving naked idea with one leg up and out of the window is starting to sound nice, I mean the worse thing that can happen is you flashing some lady, she calling the cops, you getting pulled over and given a ticket for indecent exposure, and being features on Cops for a day or two, and being known around the country as Naked Maxima Guy!
