Hi,
I am about to purchase a leather kit from leatherseats.com through a group deal. I have a 2k2 SE and don't know much about taking my car apart. I want to know that I can actually install it myself before purchasing. I dont want to leave it sitting in the corner and not able to put it on. So i looked around my car to check out how hard it is to take apart my seats.

1.
I saw that the front seats back panel is difficult. Will I have to remove the panel and cover it with leather? Can you guys give me a hint how it should be done?
also how do i remove the cloth on the headrest??

2.
how do i remove the back piece(the black part) so I can remove the cloth? I tried unscrewing the two screws but i need to do something else to get it off.

3.
How do I pull out the side piece? i dont see any bolts or screws. Also I cant just yank it out.

4.
Lastly, How do i remove the cloth from the armrest??

Please refer to the pictures.

Sorry about all the questions, but I need the confidence of knowing how to take off the cloth so I can order the leather and put it on myself. Thanks. Please describe how you to do each of the removals.

Go to: http://www.leatherseats.com and click on installation for a over view. You have to remove all your seats, the cloth pieces on the door have to be "yanked" off.

I'm hoping that someone with a 5th gen can be more specific (I have a 4th gen with leatherseats.com installed). The back panel of the front seats likely has tabs similar to those that hold in door panels. The side piece you refer to appears to be that of the rear seat ... I suspect the seat needs to be removed from the car in its entirety like the 4th gen. When the rear seat is removed, the rear armrest can be removed from the rear seat. Both the rear armrest and front headrests had interlocking plastic pieces which held the cloth in place (again 4th gen). You can pull the pieces apart a bit then flip one side to separate ... it'll make more sense after you look at it.

I don't know about 5th gens, but in my 4th gen I had to remove the back panel. You'll have to remove the cloth piece and replace it with leather. For the headrest, there are 2 plastic "rails" at the bottom that hold it together. Slide them apart and remove the cloth. A new leather cover will have a zipper, so it's going to be easier to put it back in.

No idea, I do not have it in my car.

What exactly are you talking about? Is that the side piece of a back seat on the picture?

HA! That's the worst part. Remove the cloth same way you did with headrests. There are 2 plastic pieces, slide them apart; do not be afraid to apply alot of force. You'll spend some time putting the armrest back into a new leather piece. It's good if there's another person helping you. You can hold a new cover by the two sides (where the zipper is) while someone else pushes the armrest deep inside the leather cover.

You will have to remove the bottom parts of the two front seats completely, then remove the cloth and replace it with leather. The back part of the seat cannot be removed. Take the back panel out (refer to #1) cut all the hog rings that hold the cushion and then remove it.

My advice, start with the rear seat. If you find that easy then the rest will be just a little bit harder. Oh, and prepare to spend some 6-8 hours for this job, including the door panels.
