Saving DIYs for personal use
Saving DIYs for personal use
I thought I'd share this tip to the rest of the .org:
There have been a lot of DIYs posted and created generously by fellow members, but sometimes sites get lost, deleted, removed, links destroyed, etc...
What I've been doing recently, with the help of Gmail is mailing myself the DIYs.
Basically, highlight all of the content you want to save, right click and copy. Then Compose an email in Gmail and paste. This will copy and paste the content and the thumbnails. If you want the larger pictures, open that picture up from the original page, and DRAG the picture into the email. This will preserve the full sized picture.
Send it to yourself, and stick it in a How-To folder or label for later use!
This really helps if you have a laptop or a mobile device that can access email near your car, but you don't want to fish around for that link again.
If pictures are needed to show you exactly what I mean, I'll take some screenshots when I get more time.
Disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you manage to delete your emails or make Gmail implode. Please provide credit to the DIY creators if sent or posted anywhere else.

One thing to note: if you highlight the pictures, & copy/paste them into the email, only links to the pics are actually stored (at least with the default gmail interface). This means, if the URL to the pics changes, you've lost them.
What would be better is to ensure the actual picture is part of the message....there's ways to do this but I don't know of one with the standard gmail interface aside from a manual save-to-computer, attach-to-email process.
