You guys, I would assume, if you can afford to have a modified car, and have internet access, have at least a roof over your head, clothing and a full belly, right?

Be thankful you have that this Christmas. There are people out there who don't even have that.

I try my best.

Sorry to hear about the job situation, though. That really does suck. Especially on Christmas...and with the way our economy has decided to tank even further.

I just spend 7g's moving all my stuff cross country. Whenever I close on my house in NYC, I'm going to be dropping 80 large on a down payment on another house. I took a 20k pay cut moving from NYC to CO. During the 3 weeks or so that my wife and I didn't get paid, we managed to just about max out our credit card with a limit of 12k.

I didn't want anything, and I'm glad I didn't get anything. I got a lot of stuff for my son and putting a smile on my son's face is all that matters.

And I gave my modified car to my sister because it wasn't worth it to haul it out here.

I can dig it. Family is way more important than material goods. I'm a bit on the young side to have a kid but I totally understand where you're coming from. Sorry to hear about the pay cut, though. What's the cost of living in CO like vs. NYC? I know NYC is damn expensive. It was bad enough when I was growing up in Buffalo.

I wasn't really trying to put you or Monacef down in any way. It was moreso the third dude who sounded like he was looking for pity party. It just bugs me when people forget the holidays should be more about spending time with family and being thankful for what you do have, and instead worry about cashing in big from "Santa."

A lot of the things are the same price, necessary items (groceries, toiletries, etc). There is a lot less tax. The NYC income tax was absolutely nuts. NYC income tax was as much as federal! People are nicer out here which can go a long way. Plus, I NYC wasn't what it used to be as far as raising children.

Santa, perhaps? Or whoever forces entry to your house to leave stuff instead of taking it.

Well, honestly, I'm glad I got away from NY before I had to start paying taxes. As far as I remember, looking through some of my dad's old paychecks, receipts, etc, the taxes were insane. TN's taxes are a lot lower, though sales tax is a bit higher...but it's a pretty fair trade-off.

As far as hospitality, I agree. People here in Nashville are 10x's nicer than they ever were in NY. What exactly do you mean NYC isn't what it was? Last I visited, it seems NYC has shaped up considerably from what it was 10 or so years ago.

It has gotten so crowded that there's so much traffic, and the schools are overcrowded.

Well, last year he took a fifth of Absolut from me. And then used my credit card to order a whole lot of Krystal Burgers after. And I'm pretty sure he used my Pay-Per-View account to order UFC. So, I mean...

Oh yeah, and he managed to back his sleigh into the chimney after all of that.

It sounds like you got off a lot easier.
