End is near....for the VQ engine line

I think the Nissan 3.7 has a LOT more life in it before rumors like this take hold as real plans. And these rumors are focused on the Z, and the Infiniti, not the entire combined product line.
Regardless... all things change. Meh.

I don't know, a 6.3Z doesn't sound too terribly bad does it? I still swear by MBs finish and manufacturing. Through the late 90 till 2005 all of their cars sucked but recently they are freaking hot. My dad had a '94 S500 Coupe and a '87 S500 and driving them was a dream. Having a planted feel with 155mph on the local highways (the autobahn) is priceless.... enough day dreaming!
Plus aren't the currently used 4 cylinder engines Renault made already? I would much rather have a teutonic knight under the hood than some frenchie =)

If MB can help Nissan design some cars that are attractive as the new Challenger, or the Jeep Rallye versus something like the Juke, I'm in.
However, I'd much prefer Nissan's powerplant under the hood over MB's any day...
I doubt a partnership with MB will mean the end of the VQ. Rochester's right, I think there's a lot more potential in the engine to come.
But then again, it hasn't made Ward's Top Ten the last 2(?) years, and it's the same maneuver GM's pulling...falling back on one line of engine in hopes that it'll pull them through anything.

Thats why I'm keeping my I30 forever! Soon to be a classic when the VQ is no longer in production. Lets face it....Nissan got the most life it could out of the VQ since the first one rolled off the assembly line in 1995!

The only thing wrong with the engines are poor tuning (although a lot of that is b/c of stupid emissions laws).

I'm a lot more sad at the thought of not being able to buy a car with 3 pedals anymore.
But yeah, I will probably buy another Nissan, but nothing new. Not only are new cars a waste of $, they are not as cool as Nissans of old.
I still need to own a Z32 at some point, or possibly even a Z33.
and I still need to own something with an SR20 in it.

Hold the car steady at 4k or above, the NVH is apparent. My old car a 1.8L celica at a steady 7k was still smooth all the way to its 8.4k revlimit. I drove a couple 3.0l 5gens before getting my 02, they were smoother as well.

ther're acutually pretty reliable, from my experience and through word of mouth. never really heard someone bad mouth a MB.
but back to the original topic: i thought nissan was owned by Renault???? how does MB fit in the picture?

Honestly, I've never found the VQ to be too terribly unrefined. Especially compared to a lot of the rental cars I beat o...I mean, test drive.
Compared to the LS-1 I drove for a year, the VQ runs like a sewing machine.
However, the 2JZ I had blew both of them away in the smoothness department...

Couldn't come up with a better comparison.
It's a fairly smooth engine to me. Not silky smooth. But better than a lot of cars I've driven.
Especially the econoboxes like Cobalts and Focuses (Foci?). Now you wanna talk about a rattley, noisy engine...
