Where is your GPS mounted?

Where do you guys have your GPS mounted and wired? Thought about hard wiring one on a switch or something.

Ive got it stuck to my windshield down in the bottom left corner (sort of next to the steering wheel) and then i just ran the power wire from the gps under the carpet and plugged into the ciggarete lighter. I didn't do a cleaner install because from time to time it gets switched out of the cars. For the most part its in the max though.

Do you have a tomtom? That happened to me too. I emailed them and got a new mount in the mail for free. I was happy

nah its a Garmin, i got it a couple years ago and it was the top of the line model and im surprised the suction cup gives out so much. ive used it ~2 dozen times as well and most were only for hour long trips

if i get bored i may install it in the dash and wire it up

because its easier for a GPS to guide you rather than pulling out a huge *** map, trying to find where you are on it, cursing for 5 minutes trying to fold it up again, and squinting in the dark trying to see house numbers

some of us live in large cities, not one-horse towns

Left side of the windsheild. It seems like that's the best place to put it.

I used to have my Garmin mounted to the gauge cluster and hardwired to the fuse panel. I dont have this set-up any more, as its part of my headunit now.

2011 Maxima GPS

The 2011 Maxima Audio/Video/GPS is mounted in the center of the dash and requires nothing more than a touch to have her respond .

Left side window for now. Might have to look into that cluster idea.

Lower left corner of my windshield. High enough for the defogging vent to blow air under the GPS unit to defog my windows, but low enough that not too much of my vision is lost in that area.

As for my wiring, it runs from the GPS down into the steering wheel. What I mean is that, if you tilt your steering wheel down as far as it can go, there is enough of a gap for the GPS wires to go in there and be held in place by friction. I have not had any wiring being pinched issues since I've mounted it there about a year and a half ago.

Forgot to add: My unit is a Garmin 255WT.

Exactly. Since I rarely road trip outside a 50 mile radius, I keep my GPS mounted directly between my shoulders, slightly elevated, and cushioned by soft bone.

THIS. I do have a GPS mount for my phone but I have yet to use it. My first time using it will be saturday (road trip) so it will come in handy. But I hate when people that live around here use their GPS to go to wal-mart....Like seriously WTF

why on earth would I want to bother with knowing a city I care nothing about? if I can punch it into a gps (or google maps, on the phone it's the same thing), fine, I am probably not going there again, and don't need to waste time memorizing it. then again, i don't go anywhere out of the ordinary.
I can figure out where I am (without gps/map), but not how to get there, so that's close enough for me.

oh, and how the hell am I supposed to remember every little road in the metro area? there are hundreds of neighborhoods with names that don't relate to any other part of the city. even if I wanted to that's thousands of useless roads to not need to know.

When I had my garmin, I had it mounted both on the bottom left of the windshield and the top left. I liked the top left more, but the bottom left was easier to punch into while driving (yeah, yeah, be a safety **** somewhere else).
Thought about getting the navi addon for my Pioneers, but on either car I would put it in would be a bad place to try to view and follow directions. might as well be mounted on the passenger floor board for all the use it would be.

Ditto here, but i ran my cable down behind the steering wheel. Although might wire it in permanently later.

My GPS is my HTC Evo phone and it usually just sits in the passanger seat or the cup holder. Since I run an aux line through the tape deck I can listen to directional audio cues from it over the speakers.

Suction cup doesn't work very well anymore so I open the coin tray (or ash tray, I guess) and just sit it there.

I plug it in and then throw it on the passenger side floor. Don't really need to see the screen since I just listen to it.

I use my phone for GPS, when I use it. Normally I just have it up for monitoring traffic with Waze or watch what my car is doing with Torque:

I put mine on the left side of the windshield, just about eye level. I only have it in the car when I want to use it, we have a lot of break-ins in my area.
