Trading In My Car

I have a 1998 GXE with 15,200 miles on it. I was wondering how much could I sell this for? I want to trade it in for a 1998 GLE/SE with higher mileage (Around 60K). I also have extended warranty on this car.

I was thinking of just going to the dealership and trying to trade it in for a higher mileage car and pay nothing just trade it in. Possible? I would just go and ask, but they are closed for the holidays. I really want an SE or a GLE. I prefer an SE with leather/bose.

My questions are 1) How much should I sell it for? or 2) Would the dealers take my car and give me a higher mileage 98 GLE/SE with no extra charges?

Why would you want to trade a low mileage care for a high one? Even if it is an SE

Re: Trading In My Car

that car has barely any mileage on it. why not just find some leather seats from a junk yard and swap them in. Is your car in good condition? By trading it in, you might be getting a crappier car just to get a somewhat better radio and seats.

To be honest I don't like my car. I want leather/bose/sunroof/spoiler/fog lights. At least leather/bose.
I don't have money for aftermarket. My parents have leather/bose in their Maxima and I love it.

dealer is going to try to rip you regaurdless.. but as nick said.. why would you get rid of a low mileage car with little or no problems for a higher mileage one that might have problems.. you know after you get the other car.. and all those features become boring.. you are going to kick yourself in the nads.. its nice to have features if you are in the car once in a while.. once you have it all the time.. it gets boring .. save your money and get the stuff later.. don't play on an engine

I never thought about a junk yard. Maybe I could get some fogs, spoiler, and leather seats from there. Good Idea. Thanks

My advice is simple:

DON'T DO IT!!!!!

A '98 is a relatively old car, 4 going on 5. You're not even making a lateral move because you are considering a '98 with more options but more mileage. To me the mileage is king, not the features.

Problem is dealer wants profit both ways--in taking your trade, and in selling you the other used car. That means you pay double for those upgrades you want. Not good.

Take it from someone who's got a '98 5-spd with every option, it's not that much better. One big disadvantage is the auto-climate control, it's hokey. My fan speed changes sometimes on its own, and no I'm not imagining it! Never could do it for the dealer so they wouldn't replace it when I was under 36k.....

If you must have a loaded car, then get a newer car with less mileage than your GXE....good luck.
