sup org,
i was wondering if the valve bodys are the same or is the trans the same
i swapped the valvebody and i have all sorts of problems but im using 4 out of the five 4th gen solenoids and one 5th gen solenoid it slips all the time like if its not getting enough line pressure to hold it in gear. should i swap all the solenoids? will my 4th gen tcm function the valve body? so... if this is a bad idea and cant be done, i want to just swap the trans but i dont want to take the old one out and find out i have to put it right back in

i really need help this is waaayyy over my head im not a trans expert so i will take any feed back i can get

thanks org

ok well i guess ill answere my own thread,

no the valvebodies are not the same but they bolt up. a "shuttle valve" and "3-2 timing valve" have been added. the problem i was having is solenoid related. they are not i interchangeable between generations. the valvebody will bolt up and work fine but the solenoid wires need to be cut and spliced because the connectors are different. after the hassle and 9 bazzilion diagrams i finally got my rans up and running and then found out my trans is toast

now i need to swap the trans any ways

so... does the 5th gen auto bolt up? the only thing im concerned about is if it fits ill make it work just like i did with the valvebody

thanks org

I didn't see this thread. And no, the VB's aren't the same. The main difference is the size of the 'hole' where the solenoids rest. They are different sizes. I tried to get a 4th gen not knowing wtf was going on and the solenoids just wont fit (5th gen solenoids into a 4th gen VB) not sure if the 4th gen solenoids will go into a 5th gen.

Here's a pic of them:

VB's

The 4th gen solenoids do fit in the 5th gen VB but it causes all the problems listed in my first post

Does anybody know if the trans will bolt up?
Or do I have to be a "mad scientist"

Mechanically, it will bolt right up. The only difference is the FD ratio, my guess is that it was used to compensate for the larger 5th gen wheel/tires.

Now as far as TCM/ECU electronics, that I don't know.

thank you very much for your help and being the only one to contribute to my thread

so my axles might not fit?

the 4th gen tcm operates my 5th gen valve body and solenoids

I just saw this thread... yes, the 95-99 and 2000-2001 transmissions are physically interchangeable. I've done it both ways in my '99. Axles are the same. Mounts are the same. What isn't the same is the internal solenoids and the external wiring from the solenoids. The 2000-2001 solenoid wiring terminates right on the top, and the 95-99 has a longer cable that goes directly to the main harness. A 2000-2001 tranny should come with the extension cable which must be spliced. The transmission computer will work either way and there are the same number of wires in the bundle., but you must keep the cable switch from the original transmission and mount it on the replacement. The TCM switches are in that cable mount and switches.

It's easier to find a 2000-2001 Maxima/Infiniti limited-slip VLSD transmission than the older ones. The driver's side axles are different between the VLSD and conventional differentials.

you have my deepest and sincerest thanks you pretty much answered all my questions

thank you thank you thank you org

so the i30 trans seems may have to go in. my second gear is toast with the 5th gen VB and solinoids spliced in the 4th gen trans. i get a loooooonng 1st slipping 2nd and a flare in third

one more question
how the hell do you remove the wires /connector for the solenoids?
i dont want to cut and splice what i just cut and spliced

The valve body wires go from inside into the black thingie that just sticks up above the transmission - it's a connector, and there is a wire clip you can pull out and then remove the cable connector with the (I'm guessing here) spliced wires. It's easy - and I just went into the garage and looked at my last dead 2001 VLSD tranny.

Once you pull the clip and remove the upper cable, you can push the black connector down into the transmission. That's part of changing the valve body. I have a very low mileage Level10 valve body in the garage transmission. Need one?

I installed a transgo HD2 in the 5th gen valvebody
That's why I went through such a hassle to get it to work

I was wondering about the 4th gen harness I already removed that black connector from the 5th gen tranny

Glad to see you got your answer, this isnt the first trans you went trhu either stop racing your neighborhood ricers hopefully the transgo kit can give us a good auto trans that'll take some hard abuse.

well tonight the swap went down and everything is perfect. the i 30 trans bolted right up the trans range switch did need to be swapped and the cable had to be "modified" to work properly. i highly recomend transgo this kit is anything short of amazing. light throttle nice firm smooth shifts. heavy throttle insane beastly bark your tires in second firm.

now after all the problem ive had i must say it was well worth it

if anyone would like a video posted please let me know and maybe give me some steps on how to do it.

once again thank you org for all your help and insight its appreciated to the max

What really compliments a VB IMO are PUR torque mounts.
