Got my new tires

I came by a deal at the local junkyard 2 245/40/18 and 2 275/35/18 michelin pilot sports I paid $80 they have great tread I just hope they will fit on my 18X8s which actually measure almost 8 1/2. I think the wide tire will look neat on my max what opinions do you all have on this?

Re: Got my new tires

good deal on the tires, but the other ideas don't sound good.

The 275's might not fit unless you add spacers to your wheels. That's REALLY wide!

I don't believe they will fit. If they do, your car will most likely be noticeably slower do to the increase in unsprung weight. Maybe you can sell them and make some money?

holy crap

275 width is something for a rim like 10 inches wide.

8" = 235, 8.5 = 245, 9.0 = 255, 9.5 = 265, 10.0 = 275
Although +/- 10 points is no big deal, 275 on a 8" is REALLY pushing it. The problem will emerge when u attempt to mount them onto your rims, although it can go on, the ride might be messed up. I'd put them in the back...

Re: Got my new tires

you will have zero sidewall strength. your cornering will be worse than stock. the tires may also lose tread faster because the contact patch now includes areas it shouldn't.

Make sure you're measuring that rim right. You don't measure lip to lip, but bead to bead. I think this usually shaves about an inch off the rim width.

275 is too wide for a 8" rim and probably too wide for even the rear of the Max (not 100% about this though). Even if your rim really is about 8.5" wide at the beads that's still a bit undersized.
