Steve, what did you use to record the sounds? I want to get a new gadget
BTW I may dyno my car soon so we will have a nice comparison of intakes.
if you guys get an ACT clutch probably chirp 4th
well i am guessing since the 190 hp 4th Gen with an ACT Clutch can chirp 3rd.. you .. ok.. let me not get ahead of myself ..

emax, i wasn't trying to get a hard chirp, trust me when i try i get several rotations and i can third chirp but it's hard to hear over the intake. i can't wait for an ACT clutch. and the intake isn't loud around town, jsut a noticable turbo hiss if you play with the throttle just right. i can be on the highway trying to instigate a race at like 70 in 3rd and hear nothing, then just mass the throttle and GGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAA and then the person back off
Sounds pretty good. It sounds very much like my HKS intake with no resonators and a custom heatshield. The only difference is my HKS intake sounds a bit deeper. I should note that my max makes nearly the same sound as it approaches redline (almost a buzzy noise). I think this sound is directly related to the fact that neither the 95-99 VQ or the 2002 VQ breath well past 5800rpms. The sound we hear is a resonating within the manifold as the motor struggles to cram air into the heads. The 2000-2001 Maxs don't seem to make this sound at all.

sounds very nice but that intake like many maxima intakes sits almost in the heart of the engine bay. wouldn't that pose a problem with low speed throttle response in hot weather. i know from my mom's lexus es300 which has tight body panel seams that the little heat that convects out of the seams is quite energetic (from a buoyancy standpoint) and very hot, indicating very hot underhood temperatures. it sure would be sweet to build a more extravagent hood scoop on the driver-side to not just allow additional heat to convect outwards but to more directly guide cooler ambient air to the filter location.
