Maxima's and their power

Whats going on guys? I will start out by saying that I really don't know a lot about cars, and that this may be a *FACEPALM* type of thread.

So to get on with it I was wondering what you guys thought of Maxima motors? Very vague I know, but I'm assuming different motors have different potential in terms of getting up to higher numbers in Horse Power.

Do maxima motors have a lot of potential Naturally Aspirated? With a 6 cylinder supercharged (just the 3.0's in the 4th gen for example) they generate around 300 Horse, at least to my understanding.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyUUnnP-IHo

Take that for example, an awesome maxima thats supercharged but only 270 Horse power....SUPERCHARGED.

Like I said, I really hope I don't offend anyone in the ignorance riddled post but for a 6 cylinder shouldn't those numbers be higher? I have never heard of a maxima with 500 Horse, EVER, maybe a 400 Horse power supercharged 3.5, but 270 is not a lot at all.

The acura TSX has- 201-hp, 2.4-liter in-line 4-cylinder.

70 less horse in than a supercharged v6.

SO please, no attacking statements,, but this has always made me wonder.

Most likely the 201hp in the acura is BHP and not WHP if you have to ask what that is, Search.

Have you ever been in a 500FWHP car?

anything is possible with money, but why?

I've seen a 500 hp maxima. For one, Maximas are very great machines. Stock wise the Tsx is just 10 hp over the max. Look at Flava. Look at The Wizard. The hp is not around 300. It's over 300, not even under 350. I've seen a 13 second De-k max N/A. Max's have lots of potential

A friend of mine has a turbo'd 4th gen making 350 wheel, and it's not even tuned "properly" yet.

I have been in a 500hp fwd car, my old integra that i built...its stupid, scary, and realy unreliable, I have a 2002 6spd maxima and love it, it has lots of torque, power and I dont have to worry about someone stealing it. A car with that much power doesnt belong on the street IMO, it belongs on a trailer going to the track and thats it.

Very informative posts guys, thank you for responding with such detail.

I won't lie either, I have not been in too many fast cars. The only one that really scared me was a mazda 3 speed, which was real quick. The owner said it would run 12's.

So know that I know all of this, what would you guys start with, bolt on wise?

I hear Cams are expensive no matter which way you cut it. I am getting a new ebay exhaust soon to pass inspection, but since my exhaust is F%%%%% up anyway at least I'll get some back pressure.

Oh and also, in terms of 4th gens. Turbo or Supercharger? I guess its "to each their own", but in terms of reliably/maintenance, or should I just still with bolt ons?

If you want to stay reliable stay with just bolt on and NA, if you goto the track ever so often and want some added power throw a 75 shot in. If you go forced induction, its gonna get expensive realy fast, and the most important part of forced induction is the tune. So make sure you can afford to get it tuned if you go that route

Just thought I'd ask something. Long story I went up against a G37 from a stand still. It wasn't very long until the next light but WOW that car accelerates FAST. Is it normal for a max with nothing but a Resonator delete and a Short ram intake to be violated by one of them? Lol

yes. Your Maxima is otherwise stock and would need some money, but once your bit by the modding bug there is no going back.

As far as forced induction goes; it depends on what your goals are for the car.

I wanted just a street-able fun daily driver that was reliable and on a budget. so I did trans mods, exhaust, 00vi, suspension goodies etc. nothing crazy or expensive but I'm satisfied where the car vs what Ive spent. Would I like to do more? yes, but I enjoy keeping it reliable as i drive a lot every day.
