It's been a competitior for the last year, and someone actually plugged the new 6 speeds numbers into CarTest, and found that the car will not be significantly faster than the 5 speed auto. The same thing happened when the manual IS300 came out, it was barely quicker than the auto (now that I think about it, the 6 speed Maxima isn't much faster than the auto is either. Hmm....

Medic, Why is that ? Is it because technology is getting better or what ? Seriously this is interesting...

"when I was a child I played with childish toys, when I became a man I did away with my childish ways"

Motegi? Put the toy rims away and go with something real.

Gearing and better technology. Just wait for the CVT to go mainstream, they should run as fast as a manual transmission.

they can make an auto as good or as fast as they want.

it will never be fun to drive like a manual.

I've flown my uncle's jets (a corp. pilot), it was fun, but nothing like driving a car... I say driving a car is more fun.

More heat for the 2003 Max to be something different. I sat in the 2002 CL Type S at the auto show, and those seats are really nice. The CL is unquestionably better looking than the Max. I don't know the reliablility facts but I'd guess that Acura does better than Nissan. Thing is you'd never be able to get that car for anywhere near 22k, so the Maxima will always be the price/hp leader. Upcoming rebates will make sure of that. Too bad most will be autos though.

I agree, and theblue, saying that the auto will never be as fun as a manual is purely opinion. Some people (deezo, myself, medic) like rollin the seat back and just cruisin'

Ride pimp, and still have the ***** to take out most cars on the road.

Cars don't have enemies. The only competition is within the driver, if they feel like they have to prove something.

I'm getting either 2001 530iA or 1999 540iA, both with sport package. I haven't decided yet but leaning towards a newer car though.

I used to drive a stick that had no power steering and I liked to eat while driving. To top it all off the car did not have a cup holder, so you were forced to hold the cup the whole time. Needless to say it was a little interesting.
