Hello guys, I have a 98 Maxima GLE, Just changed my shocks (tokicos HP) and added a FTB and rear sway bar.
Problem: A yellow indication has appeared on the right lower corner of my dash, saying "Service Engine Soon" and it had been 4500 miles since my last oil change, so I just got my oil changed. But the light persists, the person who changed my oil said that I have to look in the manual how to reset it. I dont remember where my manual is. I went to a Nissan dealer, who told me that no no, he had to check , and there is some mal-function in my engine. Car runs great as ever, no vibrations, no noice. I just told to just show me how to reset the thing. He said he could do it for me but it will charge money. I dont know what to do, believe him or the oil change dude. Hard to believe that car has any problem. Anyone knows how to reset this yellow thing. and if there is really something wrong what can it be that it is showing me this.

p.s. As I said Car runs better than great.
please reply soon, I will really appreciate the help.

Here ya go...

Here's a great FAQ page...

http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/

If you look under the maintainance subtopics there is a section that shows you how to diagnose the prob and also to reset it. Done it myself a couple times. works well...

You might just try waiting...I set mine off once by forgetting to put the gas cap back on.. It reset itself afer about 400 miles.

Hope that helps.

Re: Here ya go...

Thank you very much for your help. I performed the self test as told in your refference, and it had 0111, mean one long blink and the 11 quick blinks, I came back to my computer to see what does that mean, and then I went back to my car and started it first and then tried again with engine off, it had 0505. Now may be the memory was clear now, since the light has gone. But I dont have the mannual and it says something about EVAP PURG FLOW/MON, ---- refernce to page EC330. Can anyone help me? and tell me what that mean and what should I do next.?

Thats......

the Evaporator system in your fuel system. This is on the engine side of the fuel system. Basically, when you pump gas, the gas air in the tank has to go out somewhere. It is pushed out through a carbon canister, which absorbs the gas, and allows the cleaned air to pass out of the system. It is not harmfull at all. Its just and emissions thing. Still....since you have a 98 you should be covered. It hapened to my moms 98 Altima se.

Re: Thats......

No I am not covered, because I have 60000+ miles on it now, I live in NJ, and going to work and coming back will put >100000 miles before 2002(i think). Well Anyways, so are you suggesting = not to do anything about it, cause car runs great. And what do I have to look for or what is the harm this can do to my car.
Appreciate all of your responses
