you just need something to rest on the back side of the parking brake and then tap it off with a hammer. It shouldn't have a screw or anything holding it on.

*In no way am i responsible if you smash a finger, your shifter, your interior or even if you happen to blow up your car or something

Again you're wrong, but I can't blame you, you don't even have a car. Gotrice4 is right, you have to tap it with a hammer. Use someting like a thick rag between the two. There are no screws or clamps, just a pressure fit.

a bit harsh Vyrus, but a given...the information he gave was very general but didn't pertain to a maxima at all, but oh well...

When you take off the Ebrake handle, the one you replace it with needs a button like the stock one? If so, how do you know which will fit?

Thanks,
Erik

the button stays in the brake unit so no it doesnt need a button. The aftermarket handles have a hole in the end where the button sticks out. I bought a Matrix handle but I needed to grind the inside bigger so it would fit all the way on but I believe Nakiyama(spelling) sells one that fits perfectly.

I followed the hairdryer approach & tapped the the handle off with a large flathead screwdriver & hammer.

Once I attached the the new handle on, I found that the button was a bit short.

My neat creative solution was to use the copper cap off a 30 amp in-line fuse (I looked for a looong time to find something that fit perfectly!!) & bought it from Home Depot.

It's got two copper caps on either end. I sawwed the fuse in half, dumped out the powdery stuff & cleaned out the cap of the paper wrapper. I also had to enlarge the opening ever so slightly as it's tapered in. I used a pair of large needle-nose pliers for this & forced the opening wider from the INSIDE. (follow me on that?)

Anyway, when all that was done, I found that it fit the black button on my '97 SE with minimal tapping with a hammer. I've also got it painted silver so that it matches my stainless steel/black handle.

Sorry, no pix for now but I'll see what I can do & post it.

thats the reason why I grinded the handle's opening bigger so I didnt have to play the button-making game

if you know someone thats in metal shop or has access to a lathe, it will only take about 5 min to bore the hande so it will fit perfectly.
