Alot of people will tell you to use Simple Green, but I don't use it because it corrodes some metals such as the intake plenum. Eventually you'll get a dull finish on your engine. Instead, I use Espree Mag Wheel Cleaner (green stuff). It works the same as Simple Green, but is less harmful to the paint finish on your plenum and valve covers. To see a picture, go to my homepage and click 2000 Photos.

My engine is so clean I only rinse it with the left over soapy water from my car wash bucket. Once it's spotless, it's easy to keep it clean. Just a rinse now and then and a squirt of armorall all over the hoses keeps it shining like a babys A$$.

Use CD-2...

It's cheap, easy to find, and you won't be dissapointed. I use it before I go to shows and people ask me how my bay is so clean. I use it once a month, and spruce it up with the detailer (included) before shows.

Since you have been doing this I'll ask you. I have heard rumors that Armorall breaks down the Hose rubber so the steel braiding can pop through easier. Thus causing leaks. Is that true or just BS?

I remember who said that dirty engine bay = fast car. That is not true! My car is still slow.

I'm going to have to clean my engine bay when I have time. Don't use Simple Green, it does not work. I tried some engine degreaser before and it worked pretty well. So, I will use that again.

Do you guys do anything in particular to keep from getting the fusible links and fuses wet? I try to keep my engine bay clean but it gets dirty pretty quickly :P

CD-2 detailer works great but the cleaner doesn't. Too bad they are sold in packages. Use degreaser with a brush then give it the shine after with CD-2 detailer.

kind of hard to see but its shure isn't dirty. I just wipe it down with a rag frequently so theres not time for the dirt to settle. I never used any cleaning products before in the engine bay.

Wow, I'll have to stop using simple green. I don't use a lot since I never let the engine get that dirty and I always mist with armorall and thoroughly wipe everything. You can never be too cautious though. Anyway I cover every black box with a plastic grocery bag and wedge another bag in the intake.

Thats BS. Armorall is a protectant for rubber/plastic & leather. Do you think people would be spraying Armorall on their tires if it broke down rubber? On the other hand, I've never had a hose break or crack, actually I've never ever replaced a hose in any car I've owned. 21 years of driving. OK I just dated myself.

Re: CD-2

Opps, here's a pic. Chances are if you haven't cleaned it since you got the car. Foam spray on self cleaners will not do much. Those are meant to help maintain a clean engine. You'll prob have to give it a good ol' scrubbing with brush. Took me 3 hours and bottle of industrial degreaser (Used for cleaning machine parts) when I went @ it for the first time. Then when done, top it off with CD-2 cleaner and detailer and keep a spare towel around to wipe offten. Yummy, so clean you can eat off it (well, not quite; but you get the idea)

sorry my PM doesn't always work, or i just never notice when i have messages, guys please email me don't PM me, I love the SH99 its the bomb, i just have to make my first Mp3 cd, some special format you have to use, but other than that its a great looking and functional headunit, i was looking at the new Kameleon cause i had the old one in my 95 and loved it but i wanted to have Mp3 capability so i went the SH99 route i didn't choose any other mp3 headunits because i heard a few of them skip or just crap out and give errors. I think the sh99 is the best one out so far.
