Maxima Depreciation - Why So Much!?
#41
hmmmm
Its simple. As I recall, Nissan wanted to take on Honda for lease business. They have pushed leases really hard (at whatever the cost). Well, the cost has been our depreciation as they have dumped tons of off lease cars on to the lots. Its absorbed in the huge Accord market, but the max just doesnt have the market share to deal with such a large number of used cars newer cars on the lots. Nissan also went after corporate fleet leases.... even more used max's.
Has nothing to do with quality of the cars.
Also, the unpredictible rebates cause problems. It's great for the few that take advantage of them, but as a seller the resale just dropped. One of the ways Honda got where they were was by no rebates or promos. you could be a honda anytime of the year and be reasonably sure that price was stable. Not so with a Nissan.
Now Honda does rebates and promos but it doesnt matter because consumer confidence keeps the resale up.
