KYB AGXs last longer than Tokico Blues?

i am getting H&Rs pretty soon but not sure if i should wait for AGXs or just get Tokicos. Tokicos are fine with me but they go bad pretty fast. As for the AGXs, i don't really need its adjustability but they might last longer than Tokicos? So wat do u guys think? Would AGXs last longer than Tokicos?

To be honest im probably the hardest you can be on shocks considering i livve and work in dc and anywhere i go im doing 80 or 90 plus i have at least 50k miles on my blues and they still ride like brand new so thats about as much as i can tell you.

what do you mean "wait" for the AGX? they are out. They are the best strut for under $1000 because you can adjust the dampening. I love mine and I have had them on both firm and softer settings.

I think he means that the AGX for 5th gen are not out yet. I believe Cattman sells a retrofit kit to fit 4th gen AGX onto 5th gen though.

struts should last the life of your car.

The AGXs will last longer because of their variable dampers. The Toks are stock replacement just like the KYB GR2s I had. What really kills struts/shocks is the drop. Anything over a 1.5" drop will dramatically reduce the life of stock replacement shocks. Once the struts begin to wear out, the more aggressive spring rate of lowering springs then quickly kills the strut. I had GR2s in the year of my car for about 1.5 years and 20K miles. They were teamed with ST springs (1.7" drop) for a year and Intrax (2") for about 6 months. Over the past 4 months I started to notice the ride get much more harsh from the rear especially in the cold. I assumed my rear GR-2s were shot so I ordered the AGXs. Sure enough, upon removal, my GR-2s were completely blown. I've had Koni's installed in the front for over 1.5 years and 20K miles and they are still perfect. No harshness. The difference is the adjustable dampening. The struts can keep up with the lower springs and their aggressive spring rates. With the AGXs, my car rides 10X better. Harsh jolts are now mild thumps. Go with the AGXs if you have the money. They'll last much longer.

Another advantage to a adjustable setup is that if you drag race, you can set the suspension up for very little weight transfer which should help greatly on the 60'.

I don't buy the testimony that GR-2s or Toks shocks will last anything over 20-30K miles on a 1.5" drop. Struts (front) will last longer, but the rear shocks will die much quicker.

Thx for the info guys It's true that tokicos don't last very long based on my own experience. i had tokico and H&R combo on my 96, after around 15k miles, the ride had gone rough. Wat is weird is that i normally drive on freeways where there arn't that many dips and holes

Nope, but there's NO WAY Toks will last for 50K miles, even WITHOUT a drop. Struts/shocks wear out slowly over time therefore it's hard to gauge how your car orginally rode. I'd bet your just use to the ride now.

Variable/adjustable rate dampers should last a bit longer than factory replacements due to their better design. They can take a bit more abuse. I haven't read many complaints from the Honda side concerning AGXs.
