I dont recall ever reading about the awesome VQ engine in the Quest or Pathfinder brochures and all.
Is Maxima the only Nissan car with the VQ?

As a certified Nissan sales consultant, The Pathfinder has a VQ35DE, 240 hp auto, 250hp 5-spd. The Xterra and the Quest both have VG33DE's, 170hp. I30 is same as Max, VQ30DE-k, QX4 same as Pathfinder. These are also on the 2000 and up Nissans, the older Quests have something else. The older Pathfinders have the VG33DE thats in the new Quest, Xterra, and Frontier V6's.

I think it should be VG33E. VG33DE implies DOHC (i.e. the "D"), and I think the V6 engines in the Xterra/Frontier are SOHC.

The 3rd gen Maxima GXE's had VG30E. Since the Xterra/Quest engines are almost identical, I think VG33E sounds right.

Close But Not Quite

Slickismax is close the 2001 Pathfinders & QX-4's have a
VQ35DE (VQ series engine 3500cc's or 3.5 Liters DOHC
Electronic fuel injection) Xterra's Frontier's & Quest's
all have the VG33E (VG series engine 3.3 Liters SOHC
Electronic fuel injection). The old Quests have a VG30E
(same as a VG33E but it is a 3.0 same as a lot of
old Nissans). Maxima's from 95 on up have the VQ30DE
engine (also I30's) in the 2000 Max the motor is called
a VQ30DE-k which means an improved VQ. The new fullsize
truck should have a VQ35DE as base engine and the 2001
Frontier's will have an availible Supercharged VG33E.

Re: Close But Not Quite

Hmm...I would have expected the full size truck to have a base V6 which is biased towards torque. The VQ in the Pathfinder is somewhat horsepower biased. I'm betting that even if the new full size truck comes with a 3.5L V6, it won't have 240hp, but it will have more torque than the Pathfinder. Rumor is also that the truck will have the Q45's V8 as an option. Also not likely...it is more likely that the V8 will also be biased towards torque, not hp.
