Question on starter, Please help everyone

I have a 99 GLE with 44500 miles and am experiencing starter problems. I took it to Nisaan and they said that they would just replace it not try and fix it but that costs $400! A couple of people told me to try the starter fix at motorvate.ca/ but that was a 95 and the guy at nissan said they have only had starter problems on the 95's. Has anyone tried the starter fix from motorvate on a newer model. The sound occurs during the mornings when its cold and after school. Its kinda like a wheeeee sound. All advice appreciated.

Before replacing, try to repair it. My 97 has the starter noise too...I think all 4th gens have the problem and Nissan is just too cheap to issue a recall.

I plan to regrease my starter this weekend. A new starter is approx $200 from your local auto store. Replacement is pretty easy if you have a decent set of sockets.

95-96 problems supposedly stem from their 8 tooth design which was supplanted mid-96 by the 10 tooth model.
The starter noise that you probably have can happen to any year. I too think that you should invest a couple of hours and regrease the thing yourself.

What does it sound like when u start.

I have a 99 SE and after I start the car there is a grind for a split second.

Is that what you hear?

That's exactly what the one on my 97 was doing. I did the motorvate.ca fix and it worked for a while. Like someone else mentioned above $400 is outrageuous. A good quality new one won't even cost half of that. You can even get them at a junkyard for $50. Stay away from the dealer.
