I was under the car the other day doing some cleaning and I noticed that the name "CALSONIC" is all over the parts--the fans, the muffler, the radiator and also the cimate controls...I went to their website and saw that there is a picture from the dash control of a 4th generation Max--and I got to think--whoooaa...how many of these parts in our cars are actually Nissan made? Or are they mostly contracted out to other parts suppliers?
Has anyone ever heard of them, and how their quality is?

Calsonic is to Nissan like Denso is to Toyota. The majority of the Japanese car manufacturers no longer make the parts in-house. They outsource them from Calsonic, Denso, Mitsubishi, and others who are able to make them cheaper and better than insourcing.

Sounds silly, but...

I think Calsonic is either an air conditioner or radiator supplier, can't remember which. I don't see why anyone would be putting Calsonic graphix all over their car unless they were getting some serious sponsorship dough.

VQ,

I actually got a bit curious and went into Calsonic's webpage and the funny thing is there is a picture of their "car climate system" and they have a picture of the Maxima--but a lot of thier parts--muffler, radiator, AC and heating for the MAx is made by Calsonic--I wonder what the heck else they make--but hopefully it is reliable...

take a look inside your car--and you can see calsonic all over it---on most of the heating/cooling parts--
I believe even the cat converter and the pipes are made by calsonic.

I feel like I am driving a "calsonic" vehicle with a VQ motor--which is probably the only thing left that is really "nissan"

Listen to Got Rice. To put in plain terms, Calsonic is an OEM manufacturor for Nissan corp. You didn't think Nissan made all their parts did you? Just like Tokico is an OEM manufactorur for Nissan's shocks.

I hope so

I hope everything will not rattle and will not fall apart before I hit 100,000 miles--which at my current rate will be another--ohhh...(hmmm--70,000/7) --that is about 10 years.
yeup...

guess they are cool then.

heheh

Sub-contracting >>

Every automotive manufacturer does it. It places the engineering responsiblity on the sub-contractor, who can specialize in a certain area. In the end, money is saved and products turn out better.

Another example, next time take a look at a MB...see how many places you find Bosch and Hella printed on parts.

Another example...

Enkei makes a lot of OEM wheels for different manufacturers. I think they make some for Honda/Acura, and Saturn for sure.

I like my Zexel Skyline better LOL

Black VQ, Enkei made the wheels for the Miatas and RX7s. The Miata wheels can weigh 10.8 lbs to 14.5 lbs!! (14-15")

The RX7 wheels weigh 15-16 lbs (16")

calsonic makes the fan

that squeaks in the winter on low speed. The cheap sealed unit that you can't lubricate. Thank goodness for Abby Joseph Cohen, whew.

When I

pulled apart the entire dash om my Mazda, most of the parts where stamped with a Denso plate. **** who cares who makes it. As long as it doesn't say "Made in the USA",

"Made in the USA."

It just depends on what it is.

Calsonic

is an American company (oh boy--), you know--but it operates in Japan...took a look at their website--
and found out they made ethe muffler, the cat and that entire cooling system and all the goodies in that car...

what a calsonic machine I have...

only thing I see with a Nissan is the engine...
(and a few other things)
