Posted yesterday, can't find the thread in the new system. Am ready to replace original rubber on '99SE. Want to go to 245/50-16 on my 16X6.5 factory alloys. Will be 1.25" wider and 0.25" taller. Manufacturer lists 7" as minimum width wheel. Am concerned about tires rubbing or premature wear due to narrow wheel. Any experience with this tire size?

No, you don't want to go wider than 225... 245 is gonna bulge like crazy and might not be safe either.

245 won't even fit. And if they did ->

the side of the tire would be so stressed and distorted to fit the skinny wheel, you'll most likely have some funky handling effects. Not good.

225-50's fit alright (although they bulge a bit) and give a nice, wide footprint. Looks good, handles good.

If you want 245-50's (which I'm not sure you won't have some rubbing problems), you need at least an 8" wide rim.

fyi, the rear 9" wheel on my M uses 245, i would think it's way too wide for your 6.5".
