stuck e-brake

well guys i have a problem. im sure some of u have heard about the situation we're having in KC missouri right now. we had a huge friggin' ice storm and 500,000 people are out of power. this is also the first time ive been able to get on a computer in 3 days. anyways here is my problem..... lately since its been below freezing, everytime i put my e-brake up, it doesn't want to come down. it just gets stuck there. what kind i do to fix this? thanks!

There's not much you can do...

Same thing happened to me when it snowed last month. Instead of pulling it up all the way, only pull it up half-way. This may help, but if if doesn't all I can say is let your can run a little before you pull it down or don't use it.

I would say let the car warm up and turn the heat on high for about 30 minutes. Idling is bad but in that type of weather, the engine will not get too hot.

Anytime I have ice all over the car I do this.

when you get it unstuck, drive to a mechanic/dealership and get the cables replaced. I had a problem with the e-brake siezing the rear brakes on my car...it is still a little weird but it workes better now that the cables were replaced.

ok, thanks for the suggestions. i probably won't get my cables replaced yet because i'm low on cash right now. is it safe to park it in gear only? without the e-brake on?

my e-brake did the same thing last time it snowed here in NY. I was driving down the street with my rear tires litterally dragging behind me. They finally broke loose but the calipers were still locked. So my brakes were smokin like crazy, so I drove to my mechanic that morning and he told me it happens when it gets real real cold at night. And all i could do is drive them till they released and heated up. So when i got to work that day i pulled it in my shop and cranked up the heat to help thaw out all the brake lines and cables. Ever since then i dont use the e-brake when its real cold out. Funny thing is i have an Automagic.
