Insurance brokers on the board

i was going to get a 2k2 max and have the insurance under my fathers name with me listed as a driver, but when my father called the company it would be almost the same price as it would just under my name alone .. im 20, ive been licensed and insured 3 and a half years, clean record, defensive driving and drivers ed.. does this sound right? theres no way all these people under 25 with insurance in their parents name pay that much a year

Somebody must have told the insurance companies that the 2002 is a 4DSC!!! lol

Who are you using anyway?? If you want to lower your rates just raise your deductible on collision. Also ask about any mutltiline discounts that they might offer??

Oh, and unless your Dad has a terrible record, or is in his early 20's, I don't think it should be that much??? hmmm

my father has a clean record... 1 accident that wasnt his fault, hes 46, good credit.. he pays cheap for his car, but they said it would be like 4800 for a 2k2 max, and then i would need an umbrella policy so if i get in an accident they cant put a lien on his house, and thats another 120 or something per month! i just cant figure out how it can be that expensive, and it sux because that means i cant get a new car.. i would be paying more for insurance than i will be paying on the car!

That doesn't sound right man, it's only a maxima not a benz. You might want to check with a couple of other companies, especially with your father's stats, it definitely doesn't sound right! Or maybe it's because you want your name on the policy too? try to do it only in your dad's name (you would still be covered if you had full coverage if anything was to happen, so why pay more to have your name on there).

Exactly what I was going to say. They insure the car, not the driver per say. If he takes a policy out on a new car it's insured, period. Aside from that you may want to check with other companies in your area. Aflack? The duck? You LI, thats NY, there are a few companies that are offering good rates. Maybe your dad should change over as well. Shop around for the best price. I have a clean record, I'm in my 30's and full coverage on my new Max was only 1600/year in New Jersey. Next to New York, & CA, Jersey is the most expensive state to insure a car.

an umbrella policy should not be 120/month. I've got a $1 million umbrella policy and I pay under $100 for the whole year. shop around this broker is screwing with you.

also make sure they put the 2k2 max as your dad's secondary car. having the new car as your primary vehicle is usually more expensive

I'm 17 and pay $2800 a year in LI under my parent's name and I have one accident on my record. You're paying way too much and an umbrella policy shouldn't be $120 a month.

i called them, and they said it was 4800... when i turn 21 in 2 months, it will be like 3600 i think she said, which is still a lot (300 a month is the same payment as the car).. would we be able to go with a different insurance company for the max and keep his car with his company? if we can i will look around for some prices because liberty mutual sux!

I don't quite understand that, and I'm not being funny. If you were to drive the car 7 days a week, how can it be in your father's name? Doesn't the insurance co. want to know what the primary use for the car is, and who the principal driver is? If something turns out to be not on the up and up, can't they deny the claim?

That's why everyone's insurance is so expensive. Insurance breaks ba*** when it comes to renters and homeowners' claims, why can't they be as diligent with auto claims?

Where I used to live there was property tax. So many a******* registered their cars in another state to avoid the tax. Again, all it takes is some wise*** reporting you and you're busted. Try the same bu****** when applying for a US Passport, and you can get 20 years. High insurance makes me mad, but fraud even more so.

Hey Joe, look up RJR Insurance (he's a broker). I got an awesome rate from that guy, tell him you were referred by a customer (I think he's in the Seldon area, he recently moved). He searchs a couple dozen different agencies to get the best rate. But may be your dad should go.

im not committing fraud if he lists me as a driver... if he said it was just for him that would be a different story.

if your house is under your dads name, and the insurance company of the house also offers car insurance do a joint under your dads name only. trust me i will be really cheap, if not get a quote from a couple of insurance agencies for your dads name only, don't pu yourself into it yet, until your older, it doesn't matter if your record is spotless right now your 20, male, single, right there your no good to an insurer.
good luck, because i pay 4653. per year for my 2k, and thats with the joint from travelers have house and car combined, so i feel your pain of finding insurance.

New York has different laws governing its Insurance... different as in; more strict, and different as in; different from every other state.

$4800 is still a rip off though.

Also remember that cheap insurance is exactly that... so when you are looking for an alternative keep that in mind.
