Check Engine Light (P0014/P0024)

I've got a check engine light that has been identified by a diagnostic tool as Code P0014/P0024 - B Camshaft Position – Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1 and Bank 2) on my 2013. The check engine light will go away when I drive up to higher altitudes for an extended period of time. I live at an altitude of 65 ft, and when I drive above 4,000 ft. and higher, the check engine light goes off and stays off until I return to my home and the light reappears after a couple of days. This has happened several times now, so its not a one time thing. Any ideas on why that is happening?

P0014/P0024 are VVT issues. They are quite sensitive. The oil screens may be gummed up...especially if you are not good with keeping up with your oil changes. Long oils change intervals, dirty oil, and sludge, which come from hard driving conditions, can muck them up. So, if you have never had them off, then it is probably worth taking a look at them.

Problem solved

That's what happened in my case. I let the motor oil get too low, something gummed up the screen/sensor as a result and tripped those codes. I had the oil changer use a motor flush prior to oil change and the engine light went away, no issues since. I assumed the motor flush cleaned up whatever was gumming up the screen/sensor. Please note that I never had any performance issues with the car during this issue.
