6 months of 87 octane gas?

Well, my I30t has been sitting at the 'rents house for the past 6 months while i have been up here in Louisvile with the Explorer. Well i am gonna drive to the NOLA area to pick it up on the 14th. While speaking to my 'rents yesterday i found out that they have been using 87 octane in my car for the last 6 months. (all their vehicles are Diesel, they hate gas vehicles). Now what do i need to do to the vehicle to maybe fix a future problem, or will just using 93 octane when i get it help fix it? lemme know please

Everything should be fine. The knock sensor and ECU would have been working over time the past 6 months to keep the engine from pinging but you should just be able to put some good 91+ back in there and let er rip

Your 'rents house?

You don't have to do anything to your car. Just start using the correct octain gas in your car and it will run better.

Yeah the Parental Figures, i have no where to keep it cause i have the Explorer up here at school, but i am finally seling the explorer and bringing the infinity up here with me. I am only allowed one vehicle up here and with the snow, i would rather have the 4X4 and not the infinity, but since we got no snow i am selling the explorer and all my losses in it.

I would fill it with 93 then reset the ECU

I guess the knock sensor should be working whenever the car is running, no matter what gas octane level is. Sensor is real-time monitoring and feedbacking to timing control...

Using 87 caused absolutely no harm to the engine. You can use 87 for the life of the car and it will probably still go 150,000 miles trouble free. If you want that extra 0.1s quarter mile decrease time, then go for super.

After several times of discussion which octane level to use, I decided on always fill with 91 a month ago. But I never found ANY difference between 87 and 91. Now I think maybe why. I never push gas pedal all the way to floor. At extreme I may see difference but I dont have a need for that. Always 91 is just a piece of mind to me.

Has anyone else noticed that the car will start with fewer cranks on 87?? I thought that was kinda interesting. Mine always takes much longer to start if I use 93, but it definitly performs much better.

The higher the octane, means the gas has a higher resistance to burn which allows higher compression without pre detonation which results in more power.
So yes, it wouldn't be unusual for less cranks at a lower octane.
