anyone know anyways of getting out of careless driving charges? I mean, I was only going like 5mph over in a residential zone, on the straight aways. The turns I was going a little fast...Any lawyers out there?

5 MPH over? Wow you got some pretty bad cops. I don't even think about getting pulled over when I pass a cop going 10 MPH over.

yeah, cops here gotta be bored outta their minds. And they can't even solve the Jon-Bennet Ramsey case...but seriously I wasn't goin fast. I was following my friend in his '75 bronco, and that thing can't physically speed. You know how when theres a dip in the road you can kinda turn through it so you don't hit it as hard? I did that and I think the cop might have thought I was drunk or somethin...he said it was illegal. I hatem.

I say, go to court and explain the case out. If you present yourself in a professional manner, I'm sure they will end up dropping it.

If the road dip issue comes up, you can explain you are familiar with the dip at that section of the road, and try to avoid it responsibly.

WTH, going 5mph over? So the speedometer is thatttt accurate? Sheesh!

I have the utmost respect for cops, but sometimes (and some cops) ....
Let's not turn this into a cop bashing thread please. Go and plead the case out, common sense will be your friend.

Yeah, I think that's all you can do. Just plead not guilty and have a hearing. You don't even have to lie at that hearing, just explain things exactly as you did on the forum. I think there's a very good chance you could get off or simply pay a $$ fine instead.

Cops are people, as different as we are. I got a warning in MA once for not dimming my high-beams on a state highway. The guy said it's a warning and you don't have to do anything more. The only thing I could figure is he had a record that he cited someone and maybe he could run the plates or check to see if I were drunk or whatever. There was some purpose to pulling me over and giving me a warning. But the guy was totally friendly and assured me I needed to do nothing more.

Good luck.

did he get you with radar or was he following you. You can argue that radar is not that accurate, back at home they got in trouble becasuse the PD wasn't keeping the radar guns calibrated properly. If he was following you then it's a bit harder since police speedometers are more precise then the ones on regular cars.

In either case, I think you can get it punted and if not, then ask for traffic school. No reason to get a point on your record for something so stupid.
