Can't we build a FSM "search" like on TT.net?

They have a FSM on the site that someone either scanned in, or built some type of database (almost like the 2k FSM). Maybe we could have one for the 3rd, 4th and 5th gen Maxima.

Its over my head, but I know its possible. Don't we still have all of the FSM's that Nissan gave the .org at the First Maxus in Dallas? I don't want to donate mine, I use it, but maybe there is a CD on the 4th gen like the 5th gen?

A parts Microfiche would be even better. I don't know how to put it up on a site, but that would be awesome. It would save us all plenty of time calling the dealers to look up part numbers, and you wouldn't have to describe what you are looking for.

Sorry, I can't actually do any of this, I'm just the idea man :P

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you'd have to get Nissan's permission. And if they can sell them for $100+ a pop, why would they want to make it free? Knowing Nissan this wouldn't happen.

Sounds like a good idea, but check into the legality of the whole thing 1st. If someone has a copy of each gen manual in CD form, then we would need to know what format the files are stored on the CD, does the disc launch some sort of proprietary software to read its contents? If the contents of the disc are in a readable form then you would need to design a database structure that would allow easy access to various sections, the data on the disc would need to be massaged into a format that would make it easy to load into a database. This is a larger job than it appears on the surface but it is doable and would definitely be helpful. Let me know if I can help out.

Nope. The material in the manual is owned by Nissan. I don't think you can re-publish it (as putting it on the web) without their permission.

Now, if you took the time to re-write and re-draw the procedures in the FSM in your own words, I think that may be okay.

The parts microfiche is too, but TT.net used to have it on their site for several years.

Just an idea, and since the .org is so tight with Nissan, it shouldn't be a problem, should it?

that would be cool but it is gonna probably wind up taking more server space and right now it seems like the place is struggling to get by on what there is.
