New GTECH Record for me..
#1
Conditions:
Night, 37 degrees, not too humid.
It started out with my friend in his 2.5RS. Suspension mods up the wazoo.. Intake, AFC, catback exhaust, short throw, wires, and shiftlight for performance. He does 2 runs. Runs a 15.7 with a bogged launch. And then a 15.3 for his final run. His last time was a 15.5 without the catback, wires and AFC. Next was me. Previous best was a 15.1 on a 28 degree night last year with just intake. I've also run a 15.5,15.4,15.3, with just intake. Since then I've added a Y-pipe and a tranny cooler. Thats about it. Tranny cooler doesn't do that much normally. But I'm sure it helps on such a cold night like tonight. I ran with the Y-pipe once before and got a 15.3. I think that was because of massive wheel spin in 1st. Anyways. I had the heat on the whole time I was waiting to run.. =) Staged up.. turned the heat off.. I didn't really brake torque. I figure holding the brake down and torquing would just make heat. Which I don't want. So I hold the brake down and stab at the throttle while letting the brake out. I get a wheel spin launch but the engine bogs and little and it catches. So its not a crazy wheel spin launch like my last Y-pipe test. At initial launch the tires spin and I see about 3500rpm. It bogs down to about 3000 and car catches and takes of again. I keep it floored and I shift at redline. The tranny actually shifts a bit later. But this is what got me.. It shifted VERY hard. With a very good THUMP. My friend down the block said he heard a second screach of tires. That was me spinning 2nd. =) Anyways.. I keep it floored. Shift into 3rd.. And the #s come up.. --->> 14.89@97mph <<---.. =) Next up.. Another friend's stock Volvo 960. Its got a Inline 6 designed by Porsche. =) He ran a 15.7@93mph. I would give a .5 error to these times. For weather and surface. Surface isn't downhill or anything.. But I don't know if its 100% flat.. may go up and down a slight bit. So I think I can run a 15.4 or so at the track.. =) I didn't bother backing up the run.. Who cares.. its GTECH.. hehe

Its an Auto.. =) And the meter is my friend's. 139 dollars. Very easy to use. Its operated with one button. To do 1/4 mile or 0-60. You just level the unit to zero. Press the button.. it flashes -GO-. But you don't have to go when it says it.. You can take your time and launch any time you want. It senses when you launch and starts counting. If you want to do 0-60.. Then hit the brakes after 60.. it will display your 0-60 time.. if you keep going.. it will show 1/4 mile.

No clue.. =) It flashes it for a sec if you don't hit the brakes. But I wasn't looking... I think the tach and the road were a bit more important.. Last time I tested with intake it was 7.0.

i tested the GTech a few times....
against my E.T. at the track...
and it was consistently off by 2/10ths...
it reads QUICKER than your actually going...
plush the MPH is also WAAAAAY off (5mph+ too high)...
not the most accurate thing in the world...
but it can be a decent tuning device.
BTW:
my best E.T at the track was 14.8.
my best E.T with the GTECH was 14.6.
GTECH puts my 0-60mph @ 6.3 seconds.
(probably off a tenth or two as well)

Yeah, I know the times are pretty optimistic. But its good to compare cars that use the same strip of road. Just for bragging rights. And its good for tuning. Now I know my y-pipe did something. I think the tranny cooler may have did something too.. Like kept the fluid cool enough for such a hard 1-2 shift. Still can't believe I chriped 2nd.
