RT CAT reliability?

I was thinking about buying the RT Cat and i had a question. Who out there has had one for more than 40k miles? I was wondering how reliable they are and if it is going to rust out. I have heard that some people have had problems in the long run and had to change mulitple times. Has anyone heard of Carsound? Thanks for the help

18K here and 2 harsh Chicago winters. Virtually no rusting but the heat shield came lose at 15K.

At 18K mine died. RT was cool and replaced it under warranty but that hardly made up for the 3 O2 sensors, unwelding, and re-welding that I did to pass emissions

How long were the bolts you used for the install? Did you lock washers for the bolt head and bolt?

One of the AccordV6.com forum members just failed emissions with the RT cat. He only had it on for like a year or so and it was shot. The plugs he had on were too cold though and were fowled out so that could have caused the cat to fail prematurely too. Going back to stock plugs fixed 2 of 3 emissions issues. Going back to the stock cat fixed the last one.

So they're not sure if the RT cat just crapped out by itself, or if the too-cold plugs were a factor and possibly caused it to fail prematurely...

The bolts are ruffly 1 3/4 inches long and I used one washer per bolt.

Similar fault here - my CAI was all clogged up running the engine rich. RT Cat wasn't melted though so who knows

Thanks for the info guys. So nobody has heard of Carsound? They make cats too apparently and are supposed to be really good. Someone over at Team-integra.com suggested it to me. Thanks

with a stock cat in there, it would've fouled. The fault is the ultra-rich mixture, which will plug any cat - RT, stock, Catco, etc.

Car sound Cats

Yes, the previous poster is correct, we custom make them to bolt right up by welding on flanges. We also drill them for 02 sensor placement if need be.
