Re: Looking at 3.2TL type S

I'd go for the Type S personally ...with a body kit and the right rims it looks awesome and the power is there so no worries in that category. I think the Agean blue is kinda played out though, if it were me I'd go straight black on black. 4th gens are cool, but not my style...just my $.02! I think one guy one on here("Tex---" forgot his name) had the Agean blue with a body kit and man it looked amazing!

That's a tough decision. I think the TL-S is very nice. I'd say Maxima simply because of the price, but you'll be stuck with that damn beam axle again. I hear there are some problems with the Acura trannies, but you'll find that with the Nissan's too. Interior wise, I think the TL-S is better. I also like the dual exhaust. I may consider a TL-S when the time comes.

I think the Infiniti G35 will be competitively priced against the 3.2 TL-S.

If you MUST get a car for being stock, TL-S all the way w/OEM body kit. It is beautiful.

Otherwise, i'd say a 97 SE 5spd Maxima w/enough money for rims, suspension, tint, body kit, exhaust, and a SUPERCHARGER

The latter is my personal choice

Man before you decide head over to the Acura TL forum, those guys are having alot of problems with the TLS both 02 and 03's! also I think the TlS borrowed alot of styling cues from the 4th gen Maxes, they dont look to much different to me.

I think you need to do a little more research on the problems people are having with the TL. Its a nice car visually but mechanically it has some serious flaws.

A while back I would have said TL-S if 6-spd is avail, now I would say neither. When you think about it, neither auto is compelling when you look at the price. Maxima has no rebate right now, and TL-S is not cheap. The body is a 1999 design, do you want it in '03? I guess the fact that you are leasing means you have to do something, you can't do nothing. If you don't need the room then I highly suggest you look at A4 or 325i for driving experience. Why spend 25-31k to have a car that's not that much better than what you're driving now? Step up to the plate grasshoppa (to borrow shumax's expression) Or just buy 18" rims so you can stop suffering from little wheel complex ahahaha

Acura trannys suck worse than Nissans (now that really bites). If you must get acura, their 6-spd is probably real good. I think Honda makes the best manuals on the planet

If i were you, I'd also look at the new Audi A4. if not, I'd go with the TL-S then maybe the G35. IMO, the G35 is all hype.

I test drove it tonight

OK guys thanks for your input here. I do love my 99 SE-L and I think Nissan makes a great car. BUT I test drove the 2003 TL type S and it drives amazing. So tight yet very smooth and quiet. The suspension rocks. Factory body kit does make it look amazing as well.

Now for add ones. The Nav system I think is useless to me. Looks great, but do I need it??? Also looked at the A4, nice car, excellent interrior quality, but not my style.

G35, no thank you. Nothing against it but the TL is much more classy looking. Now the color, the blue is nice and bright. Black might be a nightmare to keep clean. I'm **** about my car and black is a tough color. Maybe the Maroon? I don't know. This is all up in the air still. I have 3 more months to decide wheather to buy the max or sell it and get something new.

Acura quoted me a 36 month lease with about 3500 out of pocket at 450/month. A bit higher then I really want in a car payment. Lets see how much the bank wants for my buy out. Time to play the numbers game I guess.

Kelly blue book has my car listed at 17,500. With added AGX's, FSTB and RSB, HID's and custom dash toss in the fact that it's in showroom condition, think I can get 18,500 for it?

Thanks for all your input guys.

Re: I test drove it tonight

the TL-S is an excellent car, we looked at a 2002 model of those, nice-looking car, and nice engine as well...personally i would prefer the blue or silver over the black in that car, and that's coming from someone who has 3 black cars already...black just didn't bring out the best in that car, but silver looked great...navigation is not necessarily a must, especially if you live in a smaller city like i do, where it's not exactly that hard to find your way around...that 2000 extra dollars can be spent somewhere better...but whatever satisfies you and your wallet

Actually they are not having that many problems as you think, basically the same here. Just everyone talks about it and reports every problem they have with it. I know a few guys who have over 50k on there cl-s and tl-s trannies without any problems. Also most of those people abuse their cars.

I pulled up next to one of these at a light the other day. It's a very nice car. I would like to own one in a few years, but I'm waiting until Honda gets smart and drops a manual in it.

Either that or a BMW.

If I only got 17k for a 2001 Max loaded you will expect about 12-13k for your 99.

That's what me and my girlfriend said to ourselves when we were looking at the car. She got a better cut on the deal so she decided might as well get the nav. Let me tell you, we use it all the time. At first, out of the coolness factor, but afterwards, we just found it useful all the way around. No maps and very accurate. If you drive a lot around town (I mean not the same places day in and day out), you will find it very useful. To each his own though. But trust me, you will kick yourself later asking yourself why you didn't get the nav.

I was looking the other day at an Agean Blue with body kit. Loaded except for Navi. Very nice lines. Very nice interior. I like the looks better than the Max. However, as you found out, they are not cheap. $450/$3500 is way too high. I'm paying $368/month with $2K out of pocket on my '99. Maxima is a big bang for the buck. You get a lot of car, aleit the resale value is bad. Maybe that'll turn around some day? Anyhow, the dealer assures me a new 2K2 will be the same deal. If, and I'm sure that's a big if, he comes through, then the Max is the clear winner in my book. If he doesn't, I'd consider the Acura.

I'm also a big TL-S fan. There's only one thing wrong with it right now though. No stick!!!

Otherwise a great car.

I wouldn't worry too much about tranny problems you've been hearing about on Internet forums because:

1) They're enthusiasts/groupies/car lovers
2) They're much more likely to mod/abuse/drive their car hard.
3) There are more than a few stupid punk kids that go and neutral drop those ****'s.

Every Internet car enthusiast you go to the #1 complaint is the tranny. Nobody makes a tranny worth a crap! blah blah blah. It's a moot point. People beat on their cars and sh*t happens no matter how well a tranny is designed. Don't worry about it

No you will not get 18500 for it. All those extra add on mods dont contribute to the value. You will have to end up selling them seperate to get some of your money back.

Just checked Kelly Blue Book online and found my cars private party resale vale is at $17,500. I don't see why I can't ask 18 for it and settle for 17,500. Perhaps an ad in the local paper asking 18 will get some bites. Remember it's location as well. I'm in upper Bergen County NJ. People tend to spend way to much $$ up here. I'm going to call and see what my buy out will run me over 4 years. If I'm up around 450/month, it doesn't make sense to buy the max out when I can put myself in the Acura for the same amount each month.

OR

Perhaps a trip back to Nissan to look at 2K2's ???? JoeR, I'm paying the same as you right now, I wonder if they can indeed get me into a new 2K2 for the same amount. That would be a sweet deal. I agree there is plenty of bang for the buck with the Maxima and I'm totally satisfied with the car so far.
