Who all have problems with oil consumption???

I have been digging through threads, and found a few on this topic. Just wanted to see if this is an abnormal problem with Maximas, or if it is common?? I know on my old 96 I NEVER had an issue, but it seems my 98 is going through oil somehow?? (Think it is the Oil Pressure Sending Unit, but since it isn't leaving any oil on the ground I really don't think it is the problem?) Also, my plugs look normal when I changed them last month, and I don't see any smoke out the exhaust. So just trying to get some idea of how many people have an oil consuming Maxima???

I just wish I knew where it was going. I mean from looking at the spark plugs it seems to be operating under normal conditions, and don't have a probem with smoke coming out the exhaust, and never see drips on the ground... This is just really irritating me today lol

I have noticed some oil around the Oil Pressure Sending Unit, but this could be just from when the oil was changed and dripping down from the filter?? It is never enough to drip on the ground. At first I was thinking this could be my issue, but now the more I think about it, the less I am leaning toward it. Will change it out soon as a get a dry day though.

I feel your pain. It bugged the heck out of me on my '98. Then I got the sender replaced and what really annoys me is the greaaser at the dealer overfilled the crankcase I think deliberately, so that if the car still leaked, it would probably appear full after 4k miles. It's such a pain in the butt with this VQ motor that all you can do is have the sender replaced. If it's something else, are you realistically gonna have chain covers and valve cover gaskets replaced if it loses 1 quart every oil change? It's not acceptable but why sink a thousand or more into a car that's only worth 11.5k? Tell you the truth I don't think it's just the sender unit, it's just that most are not **** about checking the oil, plus the nissan gives a different level depending on where the car is parked. Don't sweat it, nobody else here seems to be! What are the chances that you somehow got a defective 98? Very slim to nil.
