Okay, let's get a list of the cars we can kill out on the road. Right now, I'm thinking:

Any Honda or Acura, with the exception of the NSX(DUH), CL Type S, and S2000. Prelude might come close if he's havin' a good day.
Toyotas? A Solara might stand half a chance. A TRD SC'd Camry should be watched out for, too. They might be the only car that's a better sleeper than a Max. Anything other than those is less than toast.
Chevy? Anything below a Slowmaro.
Ford? Anything below a Rustang.
Pontiac? Anything less than a GTPee

What about you guys???

umm...

there is no easy kill out there.
You never know what is a sleeper and what's not until its too late.
stock or mildly modded car that you could probably run against depending on your skills and his are:
1. new accord V6 coupe
2. new civic SI
3. intrepids..so they have the 230Hp model..but that think is bulky.
4. eclipse/ talon (caution)
5. preludes (caution)
6. integras (caution)
7. N/A supras ......hard to say
8. N/A 300ZX ......hard to say
9. turbo MR2 ...hard to say
10. N/A rx-7 ....same deal
11. N/A 3000GT ...same deal

I think those above will be close match , I might be wrong!

if you need a list of cars you could probably match with the max...do a HP/torque/weight research. Also check 0-60 times. compare the test time with your own test time and factor those in.
Since I assume you are interested more in straight line racing.........thus the word kill....than other numbers are not so important

as fas as autox...that is a different beast.

I highly doubt...

...you'll take an S2000 or a CL type S with 260hp.

It's all about the driver.

the guy could have a viper, but not know how to drive..

yeah. you gotta watch out for sleepers *ahem* CRX with prelude engine or something. those are mad quick... then the guy squeezes happy gas and you're gone.

i lost to an SI with NOS on the freeway and boy, was that an embarassment..

The generalities are far too broad

Such a list can't really be compiled. For instance, you mention anything below a Rustang and a Slowmaro. Well, then you need to talk year and/or generation, engine (4, 6 or 8), etc.. Many, if not most, of the stock 4.6 litre Mustangs can be out accelerated by a Maxima. Throw on Eibachs and there's no contest on curves. So one can't jsut say, "Mustangs can't be beaten by a Maxima". My modded 96SE 5-spd has proven such.

Preludes and Integras are VERY beatable cars. As are NA 3000GT's, especially the mid to late 90's ones. Heck, even 3.0 liter M3's can be run by a Maxima. My point is, the way performance is trickling down into lesser cars and with the availability and relative ease of installment of after market performance part - there's really no such thing as a rule of thumb anymore. Lining up at a red light & reving at a 1999 Ram Air Trans Am is just plain foolishness. But outside of such obvious situations, bottom line is there's really only one way to find out.

Um, I don't think a stock Maxima 5-spd can burn a CL Type S (or even normal CL), S2000, or even a TL. Well, maybe the TL (6.7s) but it will be close.

If you are comparing auto Maximas...well, newsflash. The auto 4th and 5th gens are approximately as fast in stock form as other V6 sedans in its class (Accord and Camry).

The only thing that makes me more nervous than

a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory is Supras. N/A or TT, doesn't matter. I'm sure there are a few that I can hang with but thats the ONLY car I can honestly say that I doubt the outcome before it starts. Other than that, Honda's, Toyo's, BMW, Lexus, Rustangs, Fire-chickens, etc, really don't concern me. I get a little anxious when I run any car. And most of the time unless its got some heavy mods, the outcome will be the same.

I guess I don't put enough faith in my car, but its never let me down yet.

I never said that...

We could take an NSX or a CL Type S. That's what the word 'exception' means. Sheesh.

And I'm talking about 2000 model cars that are stock. Does that help? That's the only case where such generalizations can begin to be made.

You still have to think of who is behind the wheel. If you have an SC'd 5th gen and suck at driving, and the other guy is a total guru in an Echo, you can't rule the dude out. The point here is to get a general idea of what we can go after.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Every Hyundai, Daewoo, and Kia.hehe

Well not all of us have that instant catch up in a bottle . Too me after racing so many hotrods and muscle cars at the strip I don't even care who I race anymore. The only thing I hate is having the other person finish the 1/4 before I hit the 1/8 mark . Especially when they get tree'd at the start.

Its all good baby.

No pressure here, but that 2000 model year cars in stock trim is a vital bit of missing information. As for the CL S - you'll have to learn to cope with that EricL. He's a jive-time, penny-anti, two-bit, pimp'n wannabe from waaaay back. You'll learn.

: )

How about a Celica GT-S 6-spd? 6.6 0-60mph 15.2 1/4 mile.
Not sure about less than toast on that one.

Yeah... What he said.... (long) ;-)

Like Don said, not much I've come across on the freeway has stood a chance.

The only exceptions so far have been 2 cars, and both I raced back when my car was 100% stock. Those 2 were a crappy looking 260Z that blew out lots of blue smoke (NOS maybe?) as it left me from 60MPH and on... hehe.. And the other car was a sinister looking black TT RX7 (looked fast, and ran fast) Nice car.

The rest look like this:

Ties:
-240SX converted to look like a Nissan Silvia and this one also has a Greddy Turbo kit (saw it at Hot Import Nights later, beautiful car)
-95 Civic EX with motor swap (could have beaten him had I not underestimated him and started the race in 4th from 80MPH to 120MPH... Let's just say he was lucky and I was unprepared)
-95 911 Carrera 2 Convertible (actually I pulled on him from ~5 cars lead starting from 100MPH right up to his bumper by the time I hit 151MPH). Oh yeah, drafting does help if one has the ***** to ride someone's *** at over 100MPH.

Stoplight Kills:
-88 Supra NA from 0MPH and all the way to >140MPH. Roadkilled him, plain and simple. He's a friend, so he had to be silenced once and for all.
-87 RX7 (GXL or whatever they call them) that tried on 3 consecutive stoplights and lost all 3 times.
-91 Miata 5spd with mods (another friend's car), lost by the time I shifted to 2nd gear.
-BMW 635CSi with exhaust and who knows what else. Easy.
-98-99 Lincoln Mark VIII he was trying to cut me off and was shut out easily. Dat bastid!
-99 V6 Solara, spanked him silly even with 4 people in my car.
-99 Mitsubishi Diamante, easy kill.
-83 Ford F250 2WD with heavily worked 460cid V8 bored to 490cid (friend's truck, once featured in some truck magazine, used to hang onto my rear bumper up to 85MPH with his 3spd auto tranny!) That's one fast **** truck.

Freeway Kills:
-VW Corrado G60 (supercharged) from 75-140, beat him by 3 carlengths but he hung in there pretty good.
-3000GT SL (222hp DOHC crap) raced from 80-120. Killed him.
-Countless Preludes, Accords, Integras (some with and some without VTEC wizardry), Civics, even the over-rated Civic SI (easy kill btw). They all lost.
-Pontiac GTP, worthless top end.
-99 BMW 528i, fast car on the freeway, only lost to me by 1.5 carlengths by 130MPH
-Another 635 CSi that thought his car was the ultimate driving machine.. hehe. He lost a 70-110 race.
-92-93 Taurus SHO with exhaust (at least), got spanked over and over. He refused to believe, so he got a repeat performance.
-Eclipse GST and another GSX some other time, both lost by the same margin. Both races were from ~75-125.
-Some old El Camino thing that almost hung in there from 60-85, then lost big after that.
-91 RX7 NA with all sorts of visible/audible mods, and he got to sample the Maxima's tail 3 times..
-90 Probe GT Turbo, that's my girlfriend's car and it's modded quite a bit, lost by 2 carlengths from 75-125.
-2000 Imprezza 2.5RS AWD, held on ok in the beginning, then lost big time.
-95/96 Maxima SE auto with exhaust & other mods (including the ricey clear tail lights), he lost over and over... I guess he couldn't believe it.
-BMW 325 couldn't hang
-BMW 328 better match, but still lost.
-BMW Z3 2.3 also lost by a significant margin
-Mazda MX-6 V6 not even close...
-99 MB C280, lost a 80-110 race by 2 carlengths
-93 Mustang GT 5.0, 80-130 got him good.
-98 Mustang GT SOHC 4.6, 80-130 he was humbled even more
-Grand Cherokee 5.9L V8, he tried 4 times, and was humbled each time, especially when I opened up the can of WHOPASS on the last run gunning it in 3rd instead of 4th (80-115)...
And some more cars that I don't remember right now...

And in case you're wondering, I don't have NOS or SC on my car, just go-fast mods, mad skillz, and a lead filled right shoe.

S2000 Easy Kill?????

My older brother owns a S2000 and I know what it feels like. I doubt that you could beat it. He'll most likely be three car lengths ahead. All I have to say if the driver is good I wish you good luck. Man that car is sweet!!!! But the Maxima is too

Integras and Preludes are no competition.
kicked the crap out of a V6 Accord, 240sx, Jetta, Civics, Old MR2, and countless others I can't remember right now.
Only lost three times:
Modified 85 Mustang GT. I was right on him bumper until I hit my speed limiter at 118 (GXE)
Heavily modified VW GTI, very close, but he only beat me because I didn't start off on 1st gear and I wasn't able to catch up
Got my *** kicked by a 99 Porsche 911

Matt_P. I'm startin' to get tired of these guys that won't read. If I really said that, then that would mean we'd be easy lunch for a Honda Odyssey! Not gonna happen...
