Test drive.....G35

Just for fun, test drove the G35 today! My wife is due to replace her Accord soon and is looking for a new car. She likes the new ES300, but I have been trying to convince her the ES300 is ugly and underpowered. So on a spur of the moment, I say lets see if the G35 is in.

Wow, what a car! Very smooth, quiet (NO wind or road noise), better acceleration than my I30, and a very nice growl to the engine.
Car felt very stable and interior was nicer than I thought it would be and had nice features like duel climate control and reclining rear seats. Front grill is great looking, but the back is weird. Inside feels much more sporty than the I30 but doesn't seem as big, although the specs show them ~same size. The dark interior looks much better than the willow.

Overall the G35 is one of Nissan's best products in my opinion and the best price/performance package Infiniti currently has to offer!

Best of all, after the test drive my wife said "I want this car!" So I guess the boring ES300 is forgotten, at least for now!

I love almost every thing about the G35. I think it'll be my next car in 2-3 years. For the money, I think it is a great value. On par with a BMW 330i for much less! I hope the aftermarket is there owing to shared platform components...

Cool, I test drove it on Thursday and thought it was nice but I'd take my max over it except for the RWD. I didn't like the cabin, it just didn't feel right to me. Performance seemed great but nothing a couple mods on the max won't take care of. The coupe OTOH I may feel differet about.

I'm kinda thinking about the G35 too. I saw one in person at the auto show and thought it looked pretty good. Then I saw photoshopped pics of the G35 with the factory body kit, dropped, and on some nice wheels and I was like I want one. The big seller for me is low price of the entry model (27K). I'm awaiting pricing on the 6 speed G35. RWD, 4 doors, less than 30K, and the infamous VQ are big sellers for me.

The difference is only $3-4K. I saw a fully loaded G35 today for $35K at Herb Chambers in Boston. Wheel gap is still there, interior is weird and no sport seats available. If I had another chance to chose between 330ci or G35 I'd go with BMW again.
No matter how good G35 is, it doesn't have a heart and soul of a bimmer.

Yes, but it has the soul of sushi!

One good reason to pick the G35 over the BMW is that we now have a decent performance RWD product with all the reliability of a Japanese car which cost less than the German products. Yes, we all complain about the Nissans, but overall they are well built cars and for most of us give us minimal problems.

mmmmmmm sushi

I totally agree with you, although we can't really speak of reliability yet since it's a new model. Assuming that 2004 Maxima is going full-size, G35 might become a better choice for car enthusiasts like us.

Entry G35, $27k. Base 330i, $35. I think both have "sports package" but if there's aftermarket options, then you wouldn't need them. Fully loaded 330i's are over $40k...

I hear what your saying about "heart and soul." I've never driven a Bimmer so don't exactly know what that is but I'm wondering how much is just the mystique of BMW instead of the actual car. At the car show, it didn't spark a fire in me... I've always felt the heart of any car is its engine. The VQ with the RWD platform and great size make it a sure winner...

Hmmm...perhaps I will have to take a closer look and head up to Infinity of Norwood tomorrow. So if anyone is on 93S tomorrow look out for a G35 flying by you. Given enough highway I will have top speed #'s.
