Y-Pipe and Header Wrapping
#1
I'm looking to buy a Y-Pipe and I have heard different things about each one, which one would be the best one to get? I've heard Stillen has an annoying hiss to it and that it can be fixed by wrapping it. How would this be done exactly? Or should I just stick with the Cattman? Thanks in advance for your input.

Stillen Universal Y-Pipe >>>
The new Stillen Universal Y-Pipe hardly has any hiss. I don't know how much quieter it is than the previous pipes.. But the hiss you hear is only at WOT. There may be a very very slight hiss during normal driving.. but closing the windows pretty much gets rid of that. There is a slight rattle in the flex pipe when you rev up and down around 4k though.. But how often do you go up to 4k under normal driving anyways? Plus, it only rattles when you rev past it and back down.. Like if you were reving at someone. =) My only real complaint about he new stillen pipe is that it reduces clearance a bit because the pipe has a flange in the front that hangs lower than the rest of the pipe.

wrapping the flex joint...
with header wrap. Get two band clamps(2.5" dia)and about 3-4 foot of header wrap. Start wrapping once or twice on the smooth part of the pipe then add the first clamp. As you wrap move over about one inch per turn till the entire flex joint is covered...make sure that you are pulling tight everytime you go around the pipe. When the entire flex joint in wrapped, wrap at least twice on the other end, off the flex and band clamp so the end of the wrap so it does not unravel.
You are smothering the noise and it works. The wrap if fiberglass based so you will need to soak it and also wear
long sleeve and gloves. It's not fun but the end result is that you will hear your aftermarket intake again.
