My brother just bought a 97 se std. Would my auto 00 give a good run (both with no mods)?

I bought my 00 se max almost a year ago and since that time my brother bought a 97 and my dad bought a 00 gxe. Damn I know these cars are GREAT but what the f***.

I would assume that the 5 spd. would win the contest, unless you get the VB mod on the transmission for the auto. I know the difference on the 95's Manuals are close to a second faster in the 0-60 area than the autos. I assume that this range should go about the same for all model years. The 2K may have more horsepower, but it isn't enough to make up for the differences in transmissions.

If you think your family is bad, mine is about the same. . . It includes a 2K Max SE, a 2K Sentra SE, and a 95 Max SE. . .

No question, the 5-spd will win if the driver has decent skills. 5-spd 4th gens have 0-60 of 7.1s, and auto 5th gens have 0-60 in the 8s range.

How many is enough?

We have an '87 Maxima (up on blocks), '93 Maxima, and a 96 Maxima. My 16 year old son and I went out looking for something he's interested in today. He hasn't been all that sold on the Maxima's (he just doesn't know better). Anyway, we tried several different cars today and to my surprise, and delight, he fell in love with a '90 Maxima SE. I guess it's in the blood.

You just can't find better value!

Does this mean my '93 SE 5sp could sit next to a 2k auto a little longer than the owner would prefer as well?

Yes, the VB mod makes a difference. I have a 95SC w/ stock VB and I've driven a 98GXE w/ VB from Don Cooper (aka Don in Texas) and the 98 shifts faster and more smoothly than mine.
