Painteless dent repair or body shop? Opinions? Prices?
Painteless dent repair or body shop? Opinions? Prices?
I recently got a 4th Gen Max and there is a noticeable dent on the hood and some minor ones on the doors. The one on the hood needs paint (looks like someone tried to stab it w/ a flathead screwdriver) but the others dents don't. How much does painteless dent removal cost per dent and should I go with that or just have a regular bodyshop fix it since it has a TON of minor paint scratches anyway?
Thanks for any input on the pros/cons of either method, along with prices because I have no clue what it will cost. I've read that insurance will sometimes pick up the tab but I wouldn't want to file a claim if it can be fixed cheaply - like under $200-300.

I prefer PDR if there are no paint damage. Price is from $50-$80 per panel. Amount of dents really don't matter since the hard part is taking off the interior panels.
that sounds good because the passenger door has like 3 dents and the only other major one is on the hood.
I thought they drilled holes into the door to put their tools in? Are there different methods to this? I have seen at least one place advertise no hole drilling.

It'd be cool if you could get a group deal price for the work. Find a couple of other Maxima owners near you and all head down to the repair place. Since the cars are the same, they should have an easy and faster time as well as increase their business. Maybe they'd give you all a reduced price.

I know I've seen people say positive things about it, so maybe it works sometimes. I think the key is the reliability--it probably depends greatly on the technician. Many are nothing more than people who got into it, kinda like Jiffy Lube. You don't see body shops going out of business, do you?
IMHO it's a hit/miss technique with varying results.
i work for a car dealer and we get a lot of dents removed with the paintless dent repair. they often drill holes in the door jams or wherever so they can get the tools in to message the dent out. sometimes there are dents that cant be taken out it depends or where exactly theyre located. price depends really on where ya are and who ya know. give it a shot, its worth it. no point on a trip to the body shop if ya dont need it
