This actually belongs in the audio forum..

But I run Clarion, Dynaudio, and Tube Driver amps...
Dyna's and Tube Drivers are pricey though. Retail on the Dynaudio MK240II 6 1\2" 2 ways are $760, and the Tube Driver 275's retail for $699. Sound is too good to be true. I got my stuff from http://www.theautophile.com

Hoowha.

Nice setup Whitemax... Both of those brands are extremely pricey, but ranked way up on the SQ scale. The best SQ component's you'll get are:

(In no particular order):

Dynaudio
Focal
Diamond Audio
MB Quart

and uh.. acouple of other brands that just ain't coming to mind now. Those'll all run pretty high cash, the focals/dynaudios in first, diamonds 2nd and the quarts being the cheapest. Expect to be paying somewhere between $300-1200 for a 6.5" set in the top 10 of current brands. You can still get fairly decent speakers for under $200 though. I run Fosgate's =P Like the rest of my system, they're not flawless sound but they're damn loud

I have Quarts in my car, and IMHO, If you don't want to spend money on EQs or something that will alter the high end of these speakers, I would go with something else. I just put an EQ in my car the other day and it made a big difference in how they sounded.

As for the rest of my system it consists of:

Eclipse Head Unit (5441) and Changer
PPI PC4400 and PC2400 Amps
Kicker Soloberic 12" Sub
MB Quart Seperates (RSB 218), and Coaxs.

Ya I have MB's in my wife's car,

and while nice, they are a bit "bright", but I got them cheap, so they worked out ok....
And while my stuff isn't cheap, by the time you buy the other equipment, plus a good EQ, you can end up spending the same amount as I did, plus the SQ still isn't always as good. ( general rule of thumb is, the more things you have in the signal, the lower the SQ can be.) With EQ's you can alter the frequency to hit good marks with a RTA, but it doesn't always mean the music will sound natural.

Yeah, I know the in dash EQ's will affect SQ because of the limits they are built to, and I can live with that. . . But if you want to put good EQ's in your car, like the set it and forget it kind you would put in your trunk or something, they will affect the SQ less.

Rockford Q's..

I got them in the front 6.5" slots, and the Rockford P's (cheapie ones) in the rear. The imaging from the Q's really isn't phenominal. I heard 5litrekiller's setup, and although the speaker placement was the same, the imaging difference was amazing. The only other thing I could attribute it to is that his tweeters were on the pillar, and mine were still in the door. I don't think it would make *that* much of a difference though. (He was running quarts -- the tweeters aren't that harsh after listening to a rockford set hehe. Buying without an EQ is very doable.)

I'm not saying that you have to buy a EQ if you get Quarts, I lived with mine for about a year without one. I just noticed that there are some songs, typically old ones like the Eagles or Spencer Davis Group (I have a broad taste in music), that just make you want to cover your ears because they are so harsh even at low levels. For music recorded today they are perfectly fine, but if you get them you will have to judge for yourself if you need an EQ or not.

I have the following:
- Eclipse 5504 head unit $450
- Kicker ZX460 4 channel 80hz hi-pass (90watts by 4) $400
- Kicker ZR240 2 channel 80hz lo-pass (400 watts by 1)$350
- Eclipse 6.5 components front and rear $285 per pair
- Eclipse 12" DVC Aluminum Sub/1.0 sealed box $350 w/o box
(custom built box FREE)
- ALL Rockford Fosgate and Phoenix Gold wiring $300
- x2 1 farad capasitors (one digital top) $80 and $120
- Optima Yellow Top Deep cycle battery $150
- x3 3" DC Brushless Cooling fans $15 each (on ZR240)
- Dynamat $20 per roll X4
(trunk lid/floor, deck lid, rear floor, front doors)
- custom mounted switch (sub amp-on/off)
Overall the system is pretty damn loud and very very clean IMHO!! The kicker amps i have set at low level to keep as much road noise out as i can, the components in the front and rear are the best i have heard in a while. I know that the Boston Acoustics and MB are about the same and sound just as good. My sub speaks for itself, BLOWS AWAY ANY OTHER SINGLE 12" on the market WITHOUT A DOUBT!!!!! for all the interconect i used Phoenix Gold speaker wire and hardware, Fosgate RCA's $60 per pair. Everything is dynamtted and sealed but still have rattles Sub box is made of 1" MDF custom built by my boy Brendan at his shop. Amps are mounted on custom 3/4" board mounted to rear seats. Capasitors custom mounted in pocket in the rear/left of trunk. All crossovers and neons mounted on rear deck in trunk for a very clean display. The entire install was done by me and took about a week or two to get everything in order and adjusted to the right levels. Soon to come are x2 5" LCD screens in flip visors and PlayStationII. WOOHOO!!
