Question about Y-Pipe and Vibration

Does anybody know of a way to cure the vibration I experience after I installed my Cattman Y-Pipe? It happens mainly when I am in Reverse....I suspect the engine shifts causing the pipe to touch the frame and vibrate the whole car.

Maybe header wrap the area of contact to 'cushion' the contact area?

Or dimple the pipe??

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

-str8

Recently I learned that header wrap is bad. So you might want to avaiod that. And dimpleing it will take away from some of that performance you just payed for. What about finding where it hit and then glue some rubber on to that spot or something?

Rubber on exhaust is a No-No...I learned the hard and smelly way.

I guess something that doesn't melt or burn, but is soft and spungy? Any ideas?

Str8ridin,

I had this issue with my pipe also. I replaced the mount for the Cat. No more noise.

SuDZ,
How is header wrap bad?

If you can get access to a lift, just take a look see. Last time I was at my mechanics and it was raised, there was a spot I saw that it was barely touching at the first bend, making my pipe rattle every time I hit above 5k. All we did was pry a little bit with a crowbar at the bend right below the headers and I never heard that noise again.

i posted this question somewhere else but mabe someone in the general forum can help -
has anyone experienced a scrape/rattle from the y pipe ONLY on turns? only when i turn left, i think the noise comes from the top/front of the pipe where it collects from header. its a small problem i guess but it ****es me off and kinda concerns me
thanks
