Maxima specs and buyers guide?

Hello all,
I'm looking for a sporty maxima for a daily driver. I heard that 3rd gen cars were the only ones with fully independent suspension, so for price, bang for the buck, I'm looking into those first. Are there any recomendations on things to look for in buying a 3rd gen? Any buyers guide?
Thanks in adv.

Do you want a 3rd gen? If you do, go for it, but I don't think I'd buy one just for the fact that it has an IRS. The beam on the 4th gen and later isn't a bad design, it's a compromise, but I'm not convinced the car would really handle that much better with an independant in most real world situations. It's not like they just threw a rod back there, it does have a pretty cool design. Besides, a 3rd gen isn't going to handle well without aftermarket suspension work anyway...
If you do get a 3rd gen, get a 5spd 92-94 SE, these came with a 190 HP engine as opposed to a 160 Hp on the earlier 3rd gens. It's probably as quick as a 4th gen 5 spd. I'd get a 95-96 though, just because I prefer the look and the interior, and since maximas don't have great resale value, you can still get them cheap.

Me - 95 se k&n panel filter.
I got a jump off the start, I just edged him out. If his clutch was fine then I'd bet we would have been equal. Bare in mind he had the y-pipe.
