Question About UDP. Please Read!!!

Hi Guys!

I have a question about the UDP. I heard that it's not good for people who have a big stereo system installed in their car. I have 1 300 and 1 500 jl amp. 3 10"s..m strobes all around. Will the UDP affect anything on the car?

Anything in particular?? I guess the smaller pulley won't generate enough power to the and make the alternator work harder??

If you have a big stereo system, you're obviously not concerned too much about performance, so the tiny performance gain from the UDP should be ignored anyway.

The UDP will spin everything 15% slower, so with it your are loosing 15% of your power.

why not donate the UDP money to charity.. at least that will give you the same performance gain as buying it and putting it on the car.. and you will feel 10 times better after

LOL, Jeff!

Where did you get these numbers?

SprintMax is a UDP hater, but has never tried one, so ignore him. Do a search and find the multitude of arguments people have had on this forum about this same topic.

UR's says that the pulleys are 15% smaller. So if it's 15% smaller it means everything is being turned 15% less, aleast thats how I see it.

I do not have a UDP, but I'm in the same boat as you. I got a relatively large stereo, yet I also want to be fast. Yes it is a trade off.

Although the pulley diameter may be 15% smaller, one cannot assume the power output of the alternator will be 15% less. The power output on these alternators are definately not linear at all.

I'm still considering one, as I dont go blasting my stereo full blast everytime I go into the car. I do have an Optima so hopefully that will negate the effects of having a smaller pully. But it may be taking 2 steps forwards and 2 steps back.

Large or small system ... could you negate the problems of a large system if you had a capacitor ? - you know a cap thing that helps feed the amp ... im not a big audio guy so dont hate...

I have a UDP and a stereo. I'm running 3 10's and I also have an amp pushing my 4 interior speakers too. I do crank my stereo from time to time and at night, my lights do dim a bit. My car did that before I added the UDP too. I would just get a 1 farad cap and that should help it out. I would say get a UDP. I'm happy I got mine. Oh yea, I also have a 5spd, and I think you notice the UDP more w/ a 5spd.
