the new lancer will be a turbo charged 4 cylinder with awd........its gonna be pushing about 250 HP and it cranks out 282Lbs of torque.........its kinda hard to say about how it will compete with a maxima........if its from a stop, the maxima will lose (lancer has a 5.3 second 0-60 time) from a roll the maxima still has a chance

It's too bad...the full-potenecy Evo VII in japan and europe has a 4.7 second sixty time (nothing a few mods can't take care of)

may issue of Import Tuner says:
- will come out January 2003
- Japan spec is 2.0L DOHC four, turbocharged and intercooled to whack out 276hp
- BUT... "For now, Mitsubishi will only say the engine will be developing 'more than 250 rabid horses.'"
- price tag of less than $30,000

I like this trend!

My guess is that Nissan will follow suit with the 350Z and Nismo parts for the Altima and SE-R. If the SE-R is going to continue to play, it will HAVE to get a turbo. Between the Focus SVT and the Civic SI, the SE-R is going to end up at the back of the pack if it doesn't.

The Maxima over time will probably become the car our parents drive. I wouldn't be surprised to see it lose the M/T in the next year or two.

by the way

It's the EVO VIII that will come here...not the 7. I have been paying attention to this for a long time. They say it will be a worldwide launch. I also thought it was the VII that was supposed to come. Maybe it will and they will launch the 8 in Japan and Europe. They always get the better cars.

for the future i think Nissan should "arrange" it so the Sentra and Sentra SER should go after the other mini rockets (SVT focus, Civic Si, Z24 Cav) Altima against camry, accord, grand prix, galant and Maxima should aim to compete with the high end of the sport sedan market (BMW, Lexus, benz...basically the "lower end" of the euro market) like a poorman's M5

I doubt Nissan would just arbitrarily slap a turbo on the Sentra. The reason the WRX and Evo are so juiced is because they are essentially replica rally race cars. The Sentra would be better compared to a Impreza or Lancer versus the WRX or Evo.

The Maxima really wouldn't be aimed at those cars because of Infiniti. Nissan lets Infiniti handle them. The Maxima isn't really against the Camry or Accord anymore. That's the Altimas job. The Maxima is all alone with maybe 1 or 2 competitors..those 2 acura cars that I don't want to get into. Someone correct me if I made a mistake with the classes.

I think the Max is in the near-luxury class, putting it with the Millenia and Diamante (not powerwise, just in class).

yea that sounds a bit more right; and also the higher trim level accords and camrys. But still Nissan can do with Altima vs Maxima...look at Grand Prix Vs Bonneville and Camry vs Avalon

evo VII or evo VIII nice cars but i think my 99 max will be fine, if you ask me, i think the real competitor for the evo is gonna be the skyline, which will be in the us a few years from now, under Infinity.

I read about this in Motortrend I believe. The EVO VIII is what is being officially released but it's really just a re-badged EVO VII. Just some minor changes.

yeah if i am lucky enough to get an EVO 8 i would change the front grill to what the 7 has since the 8's is way too ugly. It is split into 2. The STi will be better though. That's the car I want. I guess I will have to buy it used in 5 years.

honestly, i'm scared of lancers, and even the upcoming WRX STi. 300hp for ~30K. It makes my tuned supra look like nothing, and will smoke past my gen3 maxi. plus since it's so cheap... there's just gonna be a lot of pre-career ****** thinking they're everything in it.

heck i'd be scared of ANY car that's turboed from factory.

current WRX's make crazy gains with minimal mods.. same will apply to the evo8, STI, mazdaspeed protege ..

nissan has some heavy competition coming soon..

The new Evo VIII looks like crap!! They should have just brought over the VII and been done with it!! It can be easily solved though at evolutionimports.com With the markup over MSRP that you're gonna pay for a Evo VIII you're better off with the sale price of 36k for a Evo VII.

Yeah but the insurance company will defenitely charge you more for the VII. They won't even have that in their records? They will either label it as a kit-car or a 36K car. The VIII doesn't look that much different from the VII. You can always go JDM and change the grills if it affects you that much.

Those cars gearing is done mainly for accel. They dont have much topend. But what I am worried about is the new Acorn, according to Motor Trend (i think) They said 0-60is in 6.4, I about fell off my seat. Theres no way that car is that fast. It will be quite depressing if are arch nemisis is faster than us. I tell ya the end of the world is coming.

wow, you never read that story about the "little engine that thought he could"
did you? No, you're right. That car gets from 0-60 in under 5 seconds..no way we could take it from the line or even after that.

That video is the most incredible thing I've ever seen. I cannot even imagine a car handling, braking and accelerating in a manner comparable to that. It's like a rocket powered go-kart

I just watched the video...

That was from a gymkhana event in Japan. Gymkhana is similar to an autocross, with cones marking the course. However, there are less cones to tell you where to go, and part of the challenge is remembering what path you're supposed to take around the cones. And if that wasn't hard enough, you're supposed to be drifting most(if not all) of the time. Gymkhanas are cool because just about anyone can win. Sometimes, the Skylines and other big cars lose to smaller, more nimble cars like the Honda Beat, just because the course is so tight. I love Japan.

I don't think we stand a chance! They have a Hell of a lot more aftermarket performance support.....we have no chance in heck! Unlike the Wrx, Evos are fast at any speed; if Mitsubishi keeps them pure.
I'm shattin my self just thinking about them.Oh and in that Evo video! That's the Japanese version of "autocross" complicated it is the course is set up with like 10 cones but the driver has to remember which ones to go around in a certain order.....or lose. Neato, huh?
