Good news for boosted Max's, I did a compression test today...

After I had my dyno tuning with the Fields AFC done my peak EGTs have been kinda low with out nitrous, ~740-760c in a full 0-100mph run. I decided to move back to one step colder plugs, BKR6E from BKR7E. EGT's seem to be a bit hotter, 750-770c and the car seems to be a bit pepier. Track numbers will tell the tale. For juicy boost I will go back to the two step colder plugs.

So I had a chance to do a compression test. I have been doging on the motor allot latley so I was a bit woried. When I was on the dyno their was a visable plume of oil vapor coming out of the front breather filter, sorta like a cigarette sitting in an ashtray. And I have done probabbly 100+ 1/4 mile runs in the past few months and allot of tuning runs and basic street fun! The results of the compression test were actually very good! The motor was at operating temp, all plugs out, throttle fully open, fuel pump fuse out and cranked till the reading stopped rising. Low cylinder of 215, high of 222, diff. of 7psi. The readings were a few points lower then the last time I did it in August last year. The old plugs looked fine, no specs or signs of extreme heat. They were a bit discollered, sorta like a rust color covering the normally white ceramic insulator area. I guess thats just fuel.

So get out their and dog on that VQ, its one tough ****!

Isn't factory compression 185psi?

185 is listed as "standard" in the fsm. What ever that means? Ive had my car since new and the readings have been that high, ~220psi, since it was broken in. Bow down to Mobile 1!!!

It really comes down to consistancy and using the same gauge. Although I have used another gauge and got the same readings. As long as my readings dont start dropping off and the difference between cylinders becomes to great its a good thing.

What happened to the 3.2L motor you put in a while ago? I think I missed something, either that or I confusing you with someone else

Wow, you did miss somthing...

I got screwed by Steve Sze, the guy from Philly. The motor was crap from day one. After I finally got it to run it developed a knock after only a few miles. Lucky for me I used my credit card via PayPal. I got a refund!

Matt....what weight Mobil 1 do you use?? What mileage did you switch over at....and do you experience any oil consumption???

I switched to mobil 1 at 60,000 miles and my car now has 92,000....compression in every cylinder is between 200-210psi....and my car doesn't burn oil....but somehow ever since I put mobil 1 in (5w-30) I have consumed about 2 quarts every 5K miles!!!

BTW-my oil pressure switch is NOT leaking..I had that replaced because it was leaking at 40,000...and it hasn't leaked since..

I have used Mobile 1 since ~600 miles. I did a dino oil change after only ~300 miles. I had been using 10w30 now I may go to 5w30 or 0w30. Only Pure One filters. I used to change oil and filter every 3k, I just went 4k and took a sample for Blackstone. No noticable consumption.

I almost bought that motor too. I was so ready to send him money, thank god I decided against it. If I got that motor I would have driven my a$$ up to Philly

ya i had 180-200 psi compression in my 95's motor after running my 100 shot. all my friends told me my motor was gonna die, (stupid hicks) and it was better then when it was new. VQ engines kick, what they attach them to sometimes isn't the greatest.

Hmmm I think I will pick up a compression kit to test mine out. Should be intresting to see where it comes into. I havent run boost or anything but should let me know how the engine is holding up none the less.

I might be able to make it. I just put in a new fuel filter. I got the tranny fluid to do though.
