Is Jiffy Lube Lying to me?
Is Jiffy Lube Lying to me?
I want to get my tranny flushed/cleaned and refilled for my 95 gle Auto with 56k miles. I called up two different Jiffy Lube places and they both told me that Maxima doesnt require flushing the tranny oil. It just requires drain and refill. Is this true? i want to get it totally flushed and cleaned and refill new tranny oil. Should i look into other places? Please give me your input on this and if you have gotten your tranny flushed, post how much you guys paid (in NY if anyone got it done in NY)...thanx in advance...
Doing the flush is like going the extra mile... If you do the partial drain/refill often then I guess you wouldn't need to do the flush. If you haven't done it before then I guess you would help.
If you drain and refill your ATF every 30k, you should be fine. I don't see why Jiffy Lube would not recommend the flush. From my dealings with them, they always recommend services you don't really need.
Some Jiffy Lubes let you bring in your own ATF, if you want to use synthetic. They will take $10-20 off the T-tech flush service if you bring your own fluid.

WTH? Weird because I just got my tranny fluid flushed and refilled from my local Jiffy Lube last week. Service is more expensive than a regular drain/refill, but I think it's worth it if you don't have the time like me.
There is a machine that will totally drain the tranny and is substantially more expensive than the regular drain/fill. The machine is said to pull out all the fluid including the fluid retained in the torque converter. When you do a drain/fill you still leave the rest of the fluid in the torque converter intact. Regular drain/fill are perfectly acceptable maintainance practice and personally I don't think the added cost of the total drain is necesseraly cost effective. If the tranny is having problems and you are trying to prolong the life of the tranny that is already on the way out, then this possibly and option to put fresh fluid to hold on for a little while longer. I stress "possibly" because if your tranny is dying, there's not really anything external that you can do to stop it just maybe prolong the inevitable. The above mentioned machine is not available at just anywhere either. I have seen it at the Jiffy's and Quicklube place since it's their mainstay to change fluids, but I doubt a regular auto shop would find they need to spend thousands of dollars for a machine they will rarely use. My .02 cents.
T-Tech
I work for the company (Clore Automotive formerly Century) that makes the T-Tech machine. The nice thing about it is it uses the cars tranny pump to do the work. So there's no worry about overpressuring. It's basically spliced into the line coming from the tranny to the radiator. Most all the fluid is exchanged but a slight bit of mixing.
