Auto Preludes are probably the most common model. I went to at least 3 different dealers and 60-70% of their stock was always sport shift models. That's why beating one Prelude easily doesn't mean all of them are that easy. At least Integra GS-R's only come manual and have a noticeable badge or wheel combinations.
As for a Prelude pulling 3 carlengths from 20-70, that doesn't make the Prelude that much faster than you. It doesn't take a Jackson racing supercharger to get that kind of distance on an auto 4th Gen Max. I used to pull 3 carlengths on Shadow just in 2nd gear b/c of his giant wheels and heavy stereo. Now he pulls 3 carlengths on me from 20-50 quite easily.

I've raced half a dozen or so around here from '92 and up.. VTEC, non-VTEC, auto, stick, etc.
I have yet to be beaten off the line or from a roll, and I constantly run a 15-flat at the track.
Then again, my engine has a top end similar to the VTEC. the one time I raced a nearly-stock 4th gen stick, his headlights were specs in my rearview by 120mph.
VQ really starts to die off on the high end of the revs. I always thought they had pretty good high end until I ran one in my VE. (before that, I was in a VG auto that crapped at about 5200rpm and would be lucky to run high 16s).

What makes the "SH" model so much faster and how much does the quarter mile time drop from the normal model. Also, since the kid has exhaust and intake, how much faster will he be. Att Honda Guys: Can you tell me about the new ecu the 96 ludes got?? I think it got the OBD2 ecu??? I hear that it really doesnt take mods to well. If so, since the 97 ludes have them, isnt that to my advantage?

The Type SH which is the upper model in the '97-'01 line and is equipped with a quasi-limited slip called ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System). It adds an addtional 80 or so lbs and since it is drivetrain related it typically causes the Type SH to be a tenth or so slower in the 1/4. Ofcourse, the Prelude isn't all about speed, more so about handling. The Type SH creams a base model in handling (I had a base and a friend had an SH.....in the twisties....he would walk me). In fact, last year Car and Driver voted the Type SH the best handling car from under $30K. The Type SH is available only with a 5spd and the base comes standard with a 5spd, optional with a 4 speed auto.
As far as the ECU goes, the ECU on the pre-96 model is easier to work with and takes to mods better since it is OBDI. The 96 and on ECU is OBDII and over the course of time tries to counteract your mods to stick with its strict emissions requirements. On my 01 I had to reset the ECU (via pulling the radio fuse for about one minute) once a week or otherwise I can feel my power go down.

What about the race from 0mph-60mph against me on 87th street in Kansas City? I got you by about 2 cars, ehh? You did have a passenger though. What about at the track? You were getting 15.0-15.2@92-93mph and I was getting 14.7-14.8@94-95mph. Who's got the topend, baby
j/k!!! Can't wait to your turbo VE-T. Dave
stock for stock, the maxima should beat the lude, given the same transmissions. In the quarter mile, the auto lude is no competition, its powerband doesnt start till 5000 and it can barely launch above 2000. My friend had a bone stock civic dx auto vs my friend who has a auto 01 lude, and when they raced from a dead stop, they were dead even until the lude hits vtec. Auto Lude is garbage, just doesnt compare in the quarter. As for 5spd lude, it will edge a auto maxima, gearing and powerband just isnt the maxes advantage in that situation, but it wont win by a whole lot. I raced my friends 96 VTEC Lude and i have auto 2k SE, and we raced from 0-110, hes not an expert at launching, so when we leave the hole i get about 1-1.5 cars on him, but by 80 he's next to me and by 100 im at his door. 5spd vs 5spd, in the quarter, the maxima shouldnt really have a problem as long as u dont mess up shifts.
