Tightening rear shock piston nuts???

I did my suspension install (first time) myself this weekend.
Kyg/Axg and ground controls.

I’ll probably do a short write up soon:

Anyway – the biggest challenge I had was tightening the rear shock piston nuts. When I used a wrench the whole assembly would just spin around regardless of whether the car was dropped down or not.

What did I do wrong? In the end I had to use a pipe wrench to lock the damn thing down, and used another wrench by hand to tighten it. No way I could use a torque wrench with this method.

Can you guys tell me a better way to tighten the rear shock nuts?

Thanks.

PG.

I seriously hope you didn't you didn't use a visegrip or anything like that on the the shiny shock piston or the shock will be dead in no time.

You can usually loosen/tighten the center nut when the car is on the ground before/after you remove/install the struts/shocks.

I used a vice grip right on the top flat part, and tightened with an open end wrench.

When you are taking out the old shocks, it doesn't matter cuz they are dead or nearly and you won't be using them again. It mars the surface that meets the seals below... destroying the seals as it goes up and down past them.
