G35, Wtf?

What the hell is the big deal with the G35 sedan. Now the G35 coupe I can see. All I see everyday on the org is people drooling over this thing. I mean don't get me wrong 260hp and rwd is nice, but not that nice. I can't believe people actually say darn I wish I would have waited besides jumping the gun and buying my 2k2 6spd or auto Maxima. I mean come on get real the 2k2 Maxima in my opinion is a hell of a lot better looking car then that thing. One the other hand if you feel you should have waited on the 2k3 350Z or G35 coupe then I feel you on that one, but I don't feel you on the sedan.

So what IS nice in your oppinion? Some people might need the sedan for practical purposes, not everybody is getting it for the performance alone.

Hello

Are you kidding me??

How can you compare a maxima to the G35?? THe interior on the G35 is totally amazing, you should sit in one and you will know, the pictures don't do it justice.

On top, i drive a 99 Max SE and i hate the rear suspension. You should see the suspension and weight balance on the G35, its like 2000 times better than the max. ANd the fact that it is RWD is a GOD SEND..

Right now, I am going to purchase a new car and i am seriously considering trading in my 96 MAzda Protege and steppin up to the G35 (graduated school, working etc.. ).

I tell you my mom's 99 max SE is sweet and i would have kept it but automatic doesn't suit me.

I am droolin over the G, and waiting for the 6 speed!!!

I just curious about when aftermarket is going to start to kick in for the G35!!

I'm saying I don't see what is so nice about it. I mean i'll admit it's a good looking car with luxury and power, but so good that someone would think that buying there 2k2 Maxima was a bad idea. Not no, but hell no.

I don't like the coupe....I rather have the 4dr....and the 2k2 6spd is quick, but a "no go" in the looks department, to tell you the truth the G35 sedan isn't all that great till you put a kit and rims on it...all in all I wasn't impressed with Nissan 2k+ lineup, power-wise its pretty good, but looks wise...BLAH(don't make me start on the fugly *** Alty)!!! about the only good looking one is the 350, the slight styling differences over the G35 coupe make it look slightly better. either way all of tadays cars are going to crap in the looks department! thats my $.02, call me conservative!

When you go to the dealership and see people actually driving off with the g35 the car looks sorta funny. The car looks too narrow if you look at it from the back. It would be nice if they made the ****... flare out some like the concept gtr. Too Narrow i tell ya.

Well the maxima is also a 4 door car so i'm sure the majority of the people would not mind the G35 sedan
like come on everyone has their own opinion and taste just cuz u like the coupe better doesn't mean other people can't express their opinion they might like both coupe and sedan

Nothing to start ranting bout

I'm not ranting. I just wanted to put my 2 cents into this thing. Like I said I just don't see the big deal with it that's all, but then again i'm in Korea and won't get a chance to see it in person until November. Maybe then i'll convert and say wow the G35 is bad ****, but until then I don't like it.

the g35 looks a lot better in person. i didnt care much for it until i saw it at the san jose auto show in person back in january. it also rides and handles better than the maxima (from my test drive experiences). for those who are more sport oriented, this is the car to choose.

I'm also considering a G35...
The reason being that G35 has much more potential. First it is RWD and having LSD, this means you can Drift!!! 260hp/260lbs torque. almost 50/50 weight distribution, and the interior is lovely.
Second, it shares the same frame as the 350z, meaning tons of aftermarket parts or atleast I hope. Plus the cost is about the same as a Maxima. Don't get me wrong, the Maxima is AWESOME, but some people just have different tastes.

nice new pic zero

now back on topic. I have to agree with NISMO, the car does look funny in person. Too narrow and tall. Maybe it'll look right after some springs and shocks.

I think the G35 obsession has more to do with the fact that the car is RWD more than anything else. I really do not see why most people crave RWD especially in sub 300 hp engines though.........

Yes its more fun but in the end fwd is safer (IMO anyway).

I agree the G35 coupe is an awesome car and I have no doubt I will be owning one by 2003/2004 Z350 is pretty good as well seeing as its a sister car for some reason the G35 coupe steals my heart away

BTW is the G35 what the future maxima is going to be ie 2004/2005 timeframe?

Re: Re: G35, Wtf?

I was chosing between G35 and 330ci. I saw G35 in person and didn't like it's exterior and especially interior. The wheel gap is still there, weird overall design, no sport seats available, and the price was only $4K less than what I payed for my bimmer.

If a FWD car had a 50/50 weight distribution, then I wouldn't mind as much but the Max is nose heavy. Not to mention the rear of the car is soooooo crappy over bumps. I drive my friends IS300 and I am totally amazed by it. Even though his car turns on a dime, it also absorbs bumps amazingly well. The G35 will offer the same type of driving experience as the IS with more horsepower. The Max is just way out of its league.

I think the G35 sedan is ugly as hell

I think it is pretty bad, lookwise.

the interior is pretty bad too. The waterfall center column is very narrow. It looks hideous.

G35 is a great for performance, but as far as the aesthetics are concerned, Maxima and the Altima wins.

I don't even think the Bimmer 3 series sedans look good, either.
Coupe looks much better.

The G35 is just a set of rims, slight drop, and a chin spoiler away from looking truely amazing. It's much like what the 4th gen Maxima was like, a "little plain Jane" in stock form, but after some cosmetic mods, the car is simply beautiful. The 2K+ Maximas have never done anything for me. They are too blocky, "tacked on", and the rear end is hideous. I'll never own another Maxima has long as the rear end stays ugly and the rear beam is still there.

I agree. The rear on the 5th gen is probably in the top 5 all time fugly list. Blah. However, the G35 sedan won't win any beauty contests either. The coupe though is gorgeous

I agree. A pathetic attempt to emulate the BMW 3-series, the benchmark of all sedans in that range.

Too see bashing from brothers and sisters... ouch.
1) Lot of you love torque. Why don't we mention about addtional torque in G?
2) Lack of Torque steer. Good weight balance. RWD mechanism, Great tuned suspension. You can just power out of corner like there is no tomorrow. Everything is as predictible as it can be. (that is if you've driven RWD before) Why do you think IS300 has been selling well despite its lack of power and room?
3) Much much quieter. (at least mine is devoid of rattles, windnoises, etc)
4) G35 interior is not up to par with the rest of car (simply wonderful), but there is an easy fix for it. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291864919
Check it out.
Besides, I can't believe some people are bashing about interior quality of G35 over Max & Altima?! Come on... I test drove both. Give it where the credit is due.
5) If anyone of you Max owners are going to ***** about G35 rear end, I should just smack you. It took me nearly 2 years to get used to the Max's rear end. It is all subjective IMHO.

Of course, there are some major cons such as lack of manual at current time as well as higher price. But for those who can afford one, it definitely is step up from Maxima. (Hey, I am not ******* you guys)

As for the originial poster who is in Korea, how are those upscale hyudai & daewoo? (chairman, etc) Heard of them, seen them on web but haven't actually set in one, etc.

the coupe with some nissan badges would be nice. would be nicer if it was the skyline GTR coupe we all want. but i like the g35 and gotta agree on the fact that its a sweet car. but this car is mint, its way better looking than an Altezza (IS300). when i sat in one at the auto show, i had to have a G35. nice sport/luxury blend. i like the size of the steering wheel too. i bet its nice to take some curves in that car... u r lucky.

The only physical details I don't like >>

The weird taillamps and the fact that the parking brake handle is not there...instead, they went with a pedal actuated brake...

I test drove a G35 a few weeks ago, great handling car, good steering feel and smooth a silk ride. The stability/traction control system was intrusive, and like most performance sedans, should be turned off in order to enjoy spirited driving.

Yes some of the cars here in Korea are actually pretty sweet looking. I'll try and take some pictures of them and post them here on the org. They've got several cars in which they resemble something from the states. One car they have looks like a 4th Gen. Maxima, another one looks like a Benz, another like a Acura Legend and also several others. As soon as I get a chance i'll post the pic here.

I like the looks of the G35 and with the NISMO kit I saw over at Freshalloy, it looks incredible. I just got the title to my 98 GXE in the mail last week, and I think i'm gonna wait to see what the 6th gen Max looks like before I trade it, since I have an Accord for daily use (I know don't say it). I still think Nissan is going to make the 6th gen a real sports sedan but if not, i'll be getting the 6-spd G35 sedan, its the biggest bargain in the luxury sport sedan market right now.

Look wise it does nothing for me the Altima looks much better. Sraight line it is slightly fatser than a 3.5 Alti 6.2 vs 6.6 to 60, not even eough really to notice in most real world situations with the same quarter mile times according to Motor Trend 14.9 both autos. It dont find it a step above the Max as its interior didnt deem as high quality to me, it is a lot of cars in the 25-35,000 price range and it really depends on what you want!

Re: Re: Re: G35, Wtf?

For those interested in G35, Motorweek TV will review it in next weeks show on Speed Television. I think TV reviews are much more interesting than magazine reviews as you can really see what they are talking about. They just had a Cadillac CTS review and it got a lot of coverage. I kind of got the impression that it was sugar-coated though... they only had good things to say while in print, C&D, for one, said that it was clearly less than Bimmmer3 quality/performance albeit very good.
