CV joint cover busted. help

I just got new 17's for my car and last night i noticed oil all over my front wheel. I looked down there and found that the cv joint rubber cover is busted. How hard is this to replace? Easy do it yourself?? Im guessing i cant drive around on it too long. How much labor is involved in replacing the rubber piece? Thanks for the help. Im broke cause i just bought new rims and tires....geez, theres always something to go wrong..

if you plan on keeping the car a while you should replace the whole axle... also check out the boot on the other side because if one was bad the other is probably on its way out

which boot is it the inner or outer?

you can get the boot w/new grease for about $12.00 from a NAPA auto store don't get the split boots.... I just had my boots replaced about two months ago...the labor should not be much I paid $10.00(local hookup) to get mine changed my mechanic inspected and cleaned the joint when he took it off it takes about an hour or so..it is not a real big deal as long as you check your boots periodically if you keep them changed and in good condition you will be one step ahead...
