How many car lengths is a 1 second win in the 1/4, 1/8, or 0-60?

Does anyone have any idea about how many car lengths a one second victory in the quarter mile, 0-60, and/or 1/8 mile would be? I am not looking for an acurate calculation down to the foot, just a rough idea.

for the speed max's run at......... one tenth is roughly a car length in the quarter mile.

Depends on how fast the cars are you're talking about. One car length between 5-6 second dragsters is about .08-.10 seconds. There's a myth in the performance community that one car equals .10 seconds in the 1/4 mile. This isn't really true when talking about 13-15 second cars. Assuming both cars have the same reaction time, it's more like one car equals .2 seconds. Go to the track and you'll see what I'm talking about. Last weekend I raced a Type R at the track. We both got .7XX reaction times. He ran a 15.3 to my 14.9. As I was crossing the line I could see him in my rearview mirror (~2 cars).

Ok I know you said you didn't want a figure down to the feet, but I did it anyways, so here you go. If you calculate that a 1/4 mile is about 1332ft and a 2k2 Maxima is about 16ft long. If one car takes 15sec and the other car takes only 14sec to win then the margin would be around 5.5 car lenghts give or take a few feet. In the 1/8 mile if the winning car gets a 9sec and the loser finishes in 10sec then the margin would decrease to around 4 car lenghts again give or take a few feet. As far as computing 0-60 it's almost impossible to accurately figure that out. Anyways hope this helps.

Sorry, I meant to specify a was talking about cars that ran ~15 seconds in the 1/4 mile like a bolt on Maxima. Going by your estimate in the 1/4 mile one second is about 5 cars, anyone have any guesses on 1/8 mile or 0-60? They should be pretty close since most Maximas run about 7X MPH in the 1/8 mile.

Edit - It looks like 1BADMAX answered while I was typing and his calculations are right on with Dave B. I was thinking 0-60 since most car mags show 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

Fact is that I am right. Sorry you don't like it.

Do you have anything useful to post about other than your fantasy kills? How about the one with Camaro that popped up by accident?

No disrepect to BriGuyMax, but your siggy takes up WAY more bandwidth than Maxtor's 9-character-plus-smiley message did....

I agree...This clown comes around here pretending to know stuff, but in fact he is a dumb@ss. For example, stating incorrect information about BMWs and Audi, which he has never driven and never owned.

You were just repeating what Dave B already stated. I was NOT attacking that validity of what you stated, I simply stated that your post was un-needed becuase the question had already been answered. Especially since your post was condescending and made fun of seximagtr's attempt to answer the question to the best of his knowledge.

I have PLENTY of useful information to post about, why don't you do a search on my name and READ some of it, you may LEARN something.

You can think whatever you want about my occasional kills stories, but I have witness's to back me up, so keep on being closed-minded, but do us all a favor and think BEFORE you post.

I raced my sisters v6 accord vs. a gts celica w/ a passenger. I got a 15.8 and he got a 15.7, and he was 1car length ahead of me.

Take a look at the timeslip....I'll bet you had a better reaction time than the celica.

Please show me this "incorrect" information? I'm sorry kid but a modded S4 would rip a 2k2 6spd let alone your modded 171hp 5spd 5th gen machine!
